Valspar Championship Leaderboard [Tiger Woods just one stroke off the lead]
MSN.com ^ | 09 March 2018

Tiger Woods is -4 under par after two rounds. The golf course is near Sarasota, FL. More than half the field is still on the course, so the standings will continue to change for several more hours. Most of the Top Ten pro golfers took this week off, so the competition is not as strong as it will be at the Masters, which is played the first week in April. Still, golf is ALWAYS more interesting when Tiger is playing well.

His new nickname should be CutLine.

He seems always there at the cut line to see if he plays the weekend or not.

Most over rated, over hyped player in any sport.

Lots of one handed typing at ESPN over this one...

Woods is tied at 2nd with 3 others. Rose will be paired with Collins tomorrow. It would have been neat to see Woods in the final pairing. How do they determine pairings when several golfers are tied?

The only thing I like about Woods is that he sincerely supports our military.

I do give him credit for that.

generally, first one finished, goes out later next round.

Wont make a difference. TV will probably be all Tiger, all the time. We’ll be lucky to see Conner\Rose

Thanks. Just got back from “Black Panther ( grandkids )
Do everything you can to not see it.

I was telling my friends years ago to not ever count Tiger out. (wins an open in a playoff on wheels that are about to fold like a cheap card table.)

I see Snedeker forgot what the tiger roar from crowd was like.

Thanks. I turn it on they are interviewing Casey.

Tiger move the Masters odds\betting earlier in the week.

I’m guessing it’s going to move again

If Augusta plays short, Phil and Tiger are in the mix. Both of their games from 3 wood on up look good. The young guns, especially McElroy need to find their putters. I’d have to give the early nod to Justin Thomas. Spieth and DJ are unknowns at this point. They aren’t playing their best golf, but have shown they can up the concentration level when it matters.

I'll have to check out the layout, I think they lengthened Augusta to attempt to make it Tiger proof years ago. Add to it this is a A list field so it makes it that much harder.

They Tiger proofed it for 2006. Note that Zack Johnson won it in 2007. They are going to lengthen 13 but doesn’t look like it will be ready this year. They have plans to lengthen 5.

According to the announcers yesterday, Tiger Woods is the only player ever to resume playing on tour after a lower back fusion operation. One of the announcers also said that Tiger’s measured swing speed this week was 127 mph, highest in the field. I doubt that pure length of the tee will be a problem with him given he maintains his current physical condition. Hitting a 7 iron half a club short on 18 from effectively 195 yards uphill into a breeze in heavy wet Florida late afternoon air is the polar opposite of short. If winning this tournament meant enough to him, he would have taken a six iron and cut it a little bit to get close enough for a reasonable birdie look.

Physically he can probably do it, but I don’t think he used the driver much at the Valspar.

I saw him hit a few drivers and three woods off tees rounds 3 and 4. He was hitting them about 98-100% and getting little squeeze fades. That was damn impressive. I saw a couple of great 2 irons (driving iron) but it looked like he missed the one on 18 tee yesterday. Should have risked a 3 wood for another 40-60 yards.

He has his distance back, the question is how consistent is he with it. He didn’t hit a lot of drivers the last 2 events and did well. It was a little squirrely out in CA. I guess we will find out in upcoming events.

It was a lot squirrely in CA but looked a lot tighter in FL the past several days. That Copperhead course looks like a right bastard plus this was Woods’ first time playing the vent. Plus the field looked like it had the throw-weight of a Major. I was pretty impressed with his performance, especially on the greens where the rubber really meets the road.

Ditto performance playing a new course in competition. I think there is a fairly new rule that players have to play a course every 5 years unless injured or lost their card. He was suppose to play a tourney or 2 in the wrap around season before his back went out.

Yes, but he won his last major in June 2008. I was standing right behind him when he first doubled over in pain at Torrey Pines - can’t believe he finished, let alone won. Since then, injury, scandal, a few wins, more injuries...only the 2009 and 2013 seasons approached the dominant Tiger seasons of the past. So, in my mind 10 lost years.
