Stem Cell Therapy for knees

Posted on 04/30/2018 5:43:11 PM PDT by conservativesister

Does anyone know anything about this, my husband got a card in the mail and went to a presentation. They claim they can get the knee cushion re-grown with a 95% success rate that it works for the people getting the injections. I don't want to throw cold water on his hopes but this is all new to me and I don't know where to start looking. Any info appreciated.

Dr Joel Wallach. Youtube him. Look for a Harvard study that found 1-2 tablespoons of ground chicken cartilage for 30 days, something like that.

A bud of mine at work went thru this - paid for by the VA of all people.

Did zip for his knees.

Surgery did work.

Me - I would not spend a dime on it....

There are legitimate places that are doing the studies (it's still in FDA trials) so if they are "selling it" then it's rubbish.

I'm waiting on the FDA approved ones so I don't end up with a full replacement.

If you're concerned, tell him to ask his Ortho about it. The legitimate way is coming, hopefully, sooner than later.

If they’re talking about “Supartz injections” don’t waste your time and money. I’ve had the six-shot routine and it didn’t do squat to fix the osteoarthritis in my knee.

I believe the insurance companies have been duped by the orthopedic surgeons and maker of Supartz to pay for it in an attempt to avoid an expensive knee replacement.

Beware of spending lot of money for something for which they will not give you a written guaranty of 95% success.

After a walk on the beach, next morning I had a much swollen and painful knee. The doc ordered knee x-rays, which showed worn out cartilage and bone on bone knee joint.

Instead of going the route of knee replacements, I am trying the route of more walking. After resting my knee for 7-8 days, the pain was diminished and after that I started walking. I try to get in 10 miles of walking at a fairly rapid pace every week. And it has helped a lot to take away knee pain. In my opinion exercise tends to strengthen muscles and and tendon around the knee, thus taking some load off the bones. I use Dr Scholl’s well padded shoes and walk on sidewalks which are flat.

What is the name of the company, and the name of the procedure?

I need a new knee, badly.

if it’s the chicken business, don’t waste your money. A friend, now died, had that series of chicken cartilage shots and all is did was use up her savings. Snake oil.

Folks are claiming Stem Cell therapy for everything from hair regrowth to knees. Have an acquaintance that had the knee stem cells about three or four months ago and he feels its helping, but not fixed. I think he said they were his own stem cells. May be wrong.

It’s always been my understanding that cartilage is about the only thing in the human body that has zero regenerative capability. But I’m not a Dr. and I don’t even play one. My knees are shot too... that said wouldn’t do it until the FDA comes out with an approved therapy.

I had a series of 3 stem cell shots about 10 years ago. It substantially reduced pain and regrew some cartilage. That was with a homeopathic Dr. The cost has gone from 1000 for 3 shots to 5000, uncovered by Medicare.

Four years ago my mom had it done at the age of 79. The sessions were extremely painful. Sadly after all that pain and money, it did not work. She’s taking painkillers now.

A Freeper explained that it is due to age. Cells can only regenerate at their age level.

The stem cells are your own, centrifuged from your blood and injected on the site. Cannot hurt. Might help.

"I think he said they were his own stem cells."

That sounds at least sensible.

Someone I work with is going to get this procedure and is very excited about it. I can’t offer any more info but will be happy to report back when it is all said and done.

My doctor recommended the cheap knee sleeves you can buy at Walmart. They have really helped me. My knee is doing great, but unfortunately the hip on the same leg is going now. I did check with a clinic that does the stem cell therapy, and they take the cells from you,Then treat them, and re-inject them into your joints.
About 10K to do three joints. Their success rate for hips is 83%, or so they claim. Cost is more around 30K for the spine. I have finally decided just to go with a hip replacement. I just don’t trust the stem cell thing ... maybe it will get better in the future.

“They” are using a patient’s own stem cells.
