There's no arguing that Barbies have improved when it comes to inclusivity, as we're no longer only seeing the same straight-sized, blonde, white dolls that were first introduced in the late 1950s. Now, we have Barbies that are representative of different shapes, sizes, and skin tones, which is certainly a step in the right direction. However, Mattel just released its latest rendition of the iconic toy and a lot of people are not happy with it. The reason? The black doll's hairstyle.
Posted to Barbie's style Instagram, the doll in question is shown wearing a half head of black cornrows and a blonde curly weave next to two white dolls wearing their hair in ponytails. "Movie night with my girls to watch the @Hulu premiere of the new @Barbie documentary," reads the caption.
People were very quick to comment on the photo with their feelings, most of which expressed deep frustration over the doll's hair. "Who's [sic] bright idea was it to style the AA Barbie's hair like that. All of these beautiful brown women in all industries, you couldn't find ONE to look to for hair inspiration? You need to remove her and start from scratch IMMEDIATELY!!" wrote one user. "Maybe some have worn this style but it doesn't represent the majority," and "the Black Barbie hairstyle is horrid," are just a few of countless comments that derided the look.

Social media is proof that an awful lot of people need to get jobs and lives......and get their heads out of their a$$es.
The black Barbie hair style is ridiculous...
They gettofied her instead of goving her a professional black women hair style...
Bet they would appreciate and treasure some of those surplus black dolls that go unappreciated here, it would be neat to collect those discounted dolls and put them in care packages with necessities.
I think the doll designer was trying to include combable hair and still have molded and painted ethnic cornrows- because the toy manufacturers have decided that combable, stylable hair sells. I was never impressed with it as a little girl, or dolls in general, since I preferred Legos, but it must sell or else they would not have invented “My Little Ponies” which are just an equine appeal to the same fetish... and that life sized disembodied head doll that came with rollers and bobby pins and so on.
More fake outrage from people that wouldn’t have bought them anyways.
“Whoa, Black Barbie Bam Da Lam....”
Just about every teen-age girl I know prefers G.I. Joe to any "Ken." BTW, I have four granddaughters, that's where I first heard this.
The real issue here is her attempt to appropriate white culture. Before you know it she will be wearing a robe chinoise.

Well not to be too fussy but that is a mixed race Barbie not a Black Barbie. Trademark thingy inserted here, o.k. just pretend. The hairstyle is awful. But little girls like to play with their doll’s hair. You can’t do that with cornrows.
The SJW should be happy with the emasculated Ken doll (Maybe Ken is trans-doll-sexual?)
No toy company wants to sell a fashion doll that doesn’t have brushable hair. Execs and designers have to work with “hairplay” (yeah, that’s an actual buzzword) when designing girls’ toys because they wanna BRUSH. A full head of cornrows is not in the picture, and neither is an afro.
Yep. I still remember the sad, sad, day of finding out doll’s hair does not grow back.
