Kim Hancock, 59, of Santa Rosa, was in a crowd of people walking along a boardwalk at Fountain Paint Pot in the Lower Geyser Basin when the attack occurred, according to a statement from Yellowstone.
People in the crowd got increasingly close to the animal, according to park officials, saying at one point, people were closer than 15 feet from the bison. The statement noted that people should keep a distance of roughly 75 feet at least from certain animals including bison and elk, and stay even further away from bears and wolves.
When it crossed the boardwalk, the bison became agitated and charged the crowd, goring Hancock, park officials said, adding that the animal left the vicinity right after.
Hancock was wounded in her hip and brought to a Montana hospital in good condition, officials said. An investigation is underway.

Stupid hurts? who knew?
About one or two a year get it done to them...
...I used to live near YNP and visited a great deal...I once saw a woman kick a bison in the rear (that was in a wallow) so it would stand up in order for her to get a better picture...I kid you not...
So if she goes out when she’s released and eats a bison burger, will the left finger her as a vigilante?
People are idiots.
We had a bison walk right through camp one summer in a big campground with many people. It would have been difficult to maintain a seventy-five foot distance from the large beast. He just munched away on grass like we were not even there. No one approached him, though.
Stupid people.
We run bison on the ranch and WE don’t get too close to them. You heard them from horseback or from a 4x4 and NEVER from an ATV where you’re down low and exposed.
They’re dangerous animals and many a stray dog has wandered onto the ranch and made the fatal mistake of thinking that bison are just as much fun to chase as cattle. The bison run down the dogs and then stomp on them by putting all four feet together and then jumping up and down.
So if this stupid Californicator only got gored then she should consider herself lucky.
OMG, the gore-bull warming made the bison do it!
Avoid bison, bears and most things that can kill you.
It ain’t Jellystone Park, Lady.
Exactly. You earned your place at the top of the food chain, don’t give it up.
Yeah, they ain't interested in the "Pic-a-Nic Basket."
I always am confused about the difference between Buffalo and bison.

To be fair “paint pot porter” may have been involved.

Big difference between 15 feet and 75 feet. Even a Californian should be able to eyeball it better than that poor woman.
