“Sorry idiot, but you were carrying no identification. Guilty.”

They should execute her.

Even in the 50s and 60s it was not a good idea to fool around with the Canadian-US border nor border agents. Especially if you were not a citizen of either country.

agree. There is more to this than we know at this time.

I have crossed at HWY 539 about 20 miles east and did so w/o passport. I answered all the questions both on entering Canada and returning. I never left my car and the delay was 10 minutes at most.

She registered on their check as being suspicious, or her answers did not jibe.

Probably a spy...she should EXPECT to be detained after crossing ILLEGALLY.

Also if she acted like a jerk then I am sure the police took an extra amount of time to process her paperwork and contact the proper agencies. Police and medical staff say they never treat a rude person differently, but we know they all do within the confines of the law and policy.

Yeah, well, imagine what would happen if she was a jogger who "accidentally" went into North Korea or Israel.

She can't be so dumb she had no idea she was near the border.

When I was a teenager I ran afoul of a border control agent. I didndunuffin, had my passport, etc. but he was out to throw his weight around I guess because he was hungover on the job and it was going to be a couple of more hours before he would be able to sneak of to be drunk on the job. LOONG time ago.

There are all kinds of situations where a competent supervisor [yeah, I know, where are you going to get one of those] could save everyone a lot of grief all the way around.

In the '70s I crossed the border into Canada from northern Vermont a few times without knowing it.

Didn't realize until noticed the road signs were in French.

I would think it might be hard to impossible to do that now.

Re-entering the USA has become such a pain in the rear, I have no interest in going to Canada any more.

The last time we went up was to Lac Megantic. At the Canadian border we were asked where we were going, for how long and business or pleasure.

30 seconds, and on our way.

Returning to the USA, we were the only ones at the crossing at the time.

It took over a half an hour.

I know someone who was detained for hours just because the border patrol (RCMP) felt like it. I am talking about a couple in their 60s who were visiting their daughter who went to school in Canada.

Reminds me of the two kids who accidentally entered Canada from Montana I think back when Pokemon Go came out. Claimed they were chasing some rare Pokemon. LOL.

Funny, I remember family crossings at Niagara Falls and North Idaho in them 50s and 60s that were very casual, low key and all you needed was a driver license for ID. I arrived in Montreal on a business trip in the early 90s expecting the same DL ID to suffice. I nearly got sent back home at the airport for arriving without a passport. They let me in with a stern reprimand.
