North Carolina residents rushed to stack up on food, water, toilet paper and other necessities as 'monster' Hurricane Florence is set to touchdown in the state early this weekend.

A rowdy crowd was shown in a Facebook video shared by an employee from the supermarket off Glenn School Road in Durham Tuesday pushing one another and shouting as they hurried around the store to gather their supplies.

Police officers were even spotted making their rounds around the Walmart to ensure the safety of shoppers.

One officer is seen restraining a young boy as another shopper drops several bottles of water.

I sent my granddaughter a nice, long text telling her just that and also to fill the bathtub for flushing the toilet.

Well call me what you like, but I wouldn’t want to live a less that a 100 feet above sea level and go through even a CAT 1

It’s not the wind that will cause the most damage. It will be
the flooding if the storm stalls and takes a couple days to
move out and the rain to stop. That is what they think it
will do.

**********

She may be able to just get a bucket full from her street to flush with.
They are predicting a lot of flooding due to the storm stalling.

It’s already down to Cat 2. SMH

Why yes, with that we should be able to just stand outside with our umbrellas and wait for the rainbows.

Important thing to remember - a lot of insurance policies will cover seepage, but you have to have flood insurance to cover rising water.

At least, that was the rule after Katrina. I haven’t really kept up with hurricane law in the last 10 years.

Did you tell her “if it’s yellow let it mellow, if it’s brown flush it down?

That will make the bathtub water last much longer. That and staying away from the Beefaroni in the Pantry.

Actually, yes. If you're not near the coast, it's often just a bad storm that causes damage to mobile homes. Power might be out for a bit. Will be gone in 48 hours. None have had mandatory evacuations in the US before.

The ONLY Cat 2 to hit the US since the 20th century was 2014 Arthur... $16m in total damages across 4 states. Zero fatalities.

(Before that, you have to go back 23 yrs for a US-landfall Cat 2... 1995 Erin killed 6, and caused $700m in damages which "primarily came from downed trees, crop damages, and ship damages.")

(all 6 Erin deaths were drownings, off the coast. 3 on a dinner cruise, 1 surfer, and 2 swimmers... in a hurricane... all FL locals who were not new to hurricanes.)

I’m not sure on the current rules either. But a lot of the flooding,
they are expecting will be inland along low areas, creeks, etc. if
this thing stalls out in movement like they think it will.

I’ve been thru several hurricanes but they usually move on thru
the area and you’ll have nice and sunny weather.

They are already saying 90,00+ without power.

Driving to work this morning, I heard on the radio that crews were already heading east from Texas.

Of course, Texas is probably going to get hit this weekend, but no one bothers to mention that storm. (If it veers into Mexico, instead, the liberal press may pick up on it.)
