Many of these fans are lost for good. Like giving up anything, the early period is difficult but, once folks have found other enjoyable things to replace football such as hiking or doing thinks with family or a new hobby, they are unlikely to revert back to watching. Personally I have gotten into professional rugby with season tickets to the Glendale (Colorado) Raptors.
There is NOTHING that can compare to the watching the game on big screen in your own home...no tickets, no lines, no traffic, no weather, and it's absolutely free. Super Slo-mo replays 10 different ways. In stereo.
But that's not the only reason, either.
Fantasy League football is another reason there's nobody in the seats. No fan loyalty.
Remember back when football was a thing America loved? It was back in those days when the players loved America.
Never. Again.
Maybe it’s competition from soccer and women’s basketball? (Ha,ha)
The broadcasters will soon start putting pressure on the NFL to do something as ad rates start to decline. They don’t like paying big bucks for weakening programming.
Part of the problem may be that the Cowboy’s aren’t that good this year.

The NFL has truly peed in everyones' Wheaties, including their own.
Bkmrk
The Cowboys are but a shadow of their former quality. They currently suck. I used to enjoy watching them play, but the current coaching is just awful.
The NFL can die for all I care. They had the opportunity to nip this problem early on when it started in 2016, but bought into that SJW crap and it spread beyond control.
Today’s NFL is like watching a never ending soap opera. A bunch of highly paid hoodlums and other misfits of society running off their mouths about issues on and off the field that have nothing to do with the sport. If I want editorial commentary I can go to “Meet the Depressed”. It’s a circus and the clowns have taken charge.
The reality is fans, like me, are turning away from professional (paid) football to other sources of entertainment, like college football, local soccer leagues, semi-pro baseball, etc. where profit is not the only motive.
In Texas we have our “Friday Night Heroes” if we need a weekly fix. Tickets are cheap, parking is free, and you can bring your own cooler full of concessions. Kick back and enjoy the game. Let the kids run loose. Local law enforcement personnel are on duty in case things get out of hand. What’s not to like.
So the TV ratings are down. Just wait for the paid attendance and endorsement figures. Jerry Jones and his sidekick, Howdy Doody, may wake up and find themselves selling used cars someday.
Have not watched an NFL game in years and do not miss it one bit. Bunch of rich jerks wearing pink who think they are “heroes” for kneeling.
Unwatchable games + kneeling = lower ratings.
I blame honkies.
