Cell Phone Recommendations? (I'm NOT Cheap, Just Poor!)😁
self | 10/17/2021 | self

Posted on 10/17/2021 5:31:51 PM PDT by justme4now

I had a pretty good verizon flip phone for years.

Never used it for anything other than phone calls even though it could do things that 'smart phones' could do at the time.
The phone is/was around 12-15 years old.

Well, a friend gave me one of those 'new fangled', flat screen kind of phones and I'm learning to use it for more than calls. yaaay!

Problem is .. It's old and slow as molasses and the battery drains in just a couple of hours when browsing the net!

I have been looking at a Moto G7 Optimo Maxx that looks pretty darn good ... compared against the phone I have now, a TCL A501DL that appears to be ancient too!

The Moto can be bought for $149.00.

If you cell phone savvy folks can find a better deal or a better phone for under $200.00 .. or give me your thoughts on the moto .. I'd surely be appreciative :silly:

Heck, I may even give ya a call some day .. or not!☺

Thanks

.

Check out the IPhone 13 Mini.

Many hundreds cheaper than a Pro Max

Put a good case and screen protector on whatever you get.

Don’t get suckered into the smartphone universe. Like heroin, it’s a very bad addiction. A good non-internet, no-GPS flip phone is all anybody really needs.

The 13 Mini is out of the price range listed.

Sorry, missed that.

When I was on a serious budget, I had pretty good luck with BLU phones all in all. Not even close to the best, but good for the money.

(I have transitioned over to OnePlus, but while they are cheaper than top-end Samsung or Apple, they wouldn't be what I'd call "budget")

You may want to look at GSM Arena to help you with the choice. They have a REALLY good search functionality (at the link) that allows you to select whatever parameter -- including price -- to help you find the best phone for your purpose.

Currently running an 8 myself.

It works.

Might check out a 14, but for now 8 works fine.

Good idea. I want a phone where you can not put a vax passport on it.

What network are you on? That will matter in the choice of device. Make sure what you are getting has the frequencies that will work on your network. Also, check with your provider that they will allow the device on their network. GSM networks (T-mobile and ATT) are usually easier to use your own devices on than Sprint or Verizon.

Most of the US moto phones work on all networks.

Swappa is a great place to get gently used devices.

Just make sure whatever phone you buy will work with your current plan and provider.

If you want a low-cost provider, I’ve been using Mint Mobile for several months and haven’t noticed any difference from my previous provider. By committing to a year, I’m paying $15/mo for unlimited talk/text and 4 gb of data (you can pay more for more data if you need it).

Okay, Grandpa. Meanwhile, back in the real world, plenty of us use smartphones for payments, train and plane tickets, etc. Just because one owns a smartphone doesn’t mean one must use social media.

If you want run the latest IOS (Apple operating system) and apps, make sure you get an iPhone 6s or higher. I use Swappa. Phones must be in complete working order and the site will guarantee your $$ if the seller does not abide by the rules. The cheapest iPhone iPhone are from $100 to... 6s, 6s+, 7, 7+, 8, 8+...

I use a Moto phone. Cost recently $265. It has all the power I need, a large screen, and no hassles.

I use an iPod touch for my phone. It cost $400 but I use voip and I don’t have a phone bill. I can park outside a McDonald’s if I need to text or call somebody, or even outside of Ihg hotels since they recognize me on their wireless. I don’t usually need a phone if I’m away from home but can find wireless service in USA in a pinch. I can ask friends to make a hotspot for me on their phone if I really need to contact the missus.

I would say get a new older model apple device.

They are not the “super slickest” device out there, but they just work. I had my iphone 5s for 6 1/2 years. never had a lick of trouble. Bought an XR two years ago and will have it for another 4 at least.

The key to any of them is not to put too many apps on it.

Upfront cost can be a little spendy but if it goes for 6+ years, you get what you pay for.

I separate paper plates they conveniently glue together to increase sales. I know cheap. Get yourself OnePlus Nord N200 5G. $230.00.

Do not spend more. The phone above is all ya need. People who spend 800 and up to 3k for one are stupeeeed.
