CHECKED OUT I’m a lawyer – mark my words, self-checkout will disappear, it won’t be worth it for stores to keep their doors open

SELF-CHECKOUT machines have been a constant feature in supermarkets and grocery stores across the U.S. for years.

The kiosks have helped make the shopping process more convenient for customers as they don't have to wait in long lines.

But, self-checkout-related theft has become more prominent and there have been occasions when shoppers have been wrongly accused of stealing amid technological errors.

Dod Ghassemkhani, a criminal defense attorney based in San Diego, believes that the machines will disappear in the long term.

He told The U.S. Sun: “Self-checkouts will eventually go because there’s so much theft.

"At some point, it’s not going to be worth it for stores to keep their doors open.”

Always count on the “people that annoy you” to phuck up a good thing.

Happens every time.

The Market Basket in New England is doing a busting business and they have great people in the store. SERVICE!

Sort of the Chick FIL A of supermarkets.

Self-checkout depends on people being honest. It works here, but can’t possibly work in the areas that allow people to walk out of the store with up to $1,000 in stuff.

I, for one, hate it.

I also don’t like to use the ATM either. I prefer to go into the bank talk to a teller.

My local Kroger obviously has trouble getting people to work there. After I stayed away a while when they forced us sheeplike shoppers to bend across the U-scan area for a full shopping and then stop the weight sensors from thinking I had moved something in a forbidden way so I wouldn’t knock over some things, I was happy to see a cashier (with a long line) at one-—count ‘em, one-—checkout lane.

Next week, none again. It hurts my lower back to do all the checkout and bagging myself. And I always have a produce or other item that doesn’t match the number or says invalid to weigh it or count it. And the clearance or sale items that don’t register as such. Call for help again. I hate them.

Hmmmm.....perhaps the self checkout that survives will be the ‘Reparations Self Checkout Station.’ It will be programed to skip (free) every other item. If you make sure all the most expensive items are the ones skipped, your reparations will grow and grow. You could start your own Corner Store. The IRS will have a new business classification, The Reparations Corner Store, and chip in some more reparations to the business owner at tax time. As the Reparations Corner Store movement grows, other stores will be forced to compete, contribute...who knows.

Don’t know regarding the suburbs, but if the Soros-clones running the cities stay in power, stores will soon look VERY DIFFERENT than today, with all of the merchandise behind a wall that can withstand a tank. You get to look at empty packages in the front of the store, but if you actually want to buy anything, then you have to scan-in an order, pay for it, and then people in the back, safely isolated from the ‘locals’, will fill the order and send it up front through a system that precludes entry by the ‘locals’.

Last Saturday I rode to Walmart with my GF. While there I picked up about a 1/2 basket of groceries that included a 6-pack of beer. Self-checkout halted at the beer at which point an employee showed up to verify my ID.

I just renewed my licensed....had the old one with me, but left the paper receipt in my truck at home. She told me I’d have to get it. Nope, not happening. Showed her my still valid LTC....nope can’t accept that, only a driver’s license.

My girlfriend offered to buy it. Nope....she could be buying that for me, and I obviously don’t look 62 years old. Right.

So I tell her to cancel it. That’s when we discover that she’s not competent enough to do that.

So, as she wandered off in search of help, we both left half full baskets in front of the scanners and exited the store. Wonder what that cost them?

The next checkout lane? There has been a guy around 20 who is transitioning to female, wears makeup and affects a girlish phony act. I think “its” name tag says Poppy or something.

Good vote for U-scan.

The intent is to impoverish the lower income classes, so they demand socialism.

I don’t believe automation in retail is done. They will keep making adjustments to make it work, but the fascist world project is too important for them to stop it.

In an unrelated, yet similar vein, my utility company keeps trying to get me to agree to e-bills. I refuse and keep getting paper bills snail mailed to me.

I contacted them and said, it costs you between $5 and $10 to mail me an invoice. If you give me a dollar a month credit on my bill I will accept emailed bills. Nope said they. So I still get paper bills from them. Gee, bureaucrats are stupid.

I pump my own gasoline, and I have no problem with using self-check if it is quicker or my only option. I can certainly see the contrast is, with gasoline pumps set up as they are, stealing is very hard. Grocery store self check, stealing seems like it would be easy and, it is very easy to make honest errors. I won’t be disappointed to see them go in grocery stores, unless, when they go away, I have lengthy waits in the queue.

MOST folks are honest but a growing number think its no biggie.

All they need to do is to put RDF tags (or whatever their called) on every item .

This isn't rocket science, as you pass though the portal it scans everything in your cart. Tags are cheep now but could be even cheaper if mass produced.
