In all honesty the last real President was Calvin Coolidge end of story!

Indeed! Calvin, my cat, is named after him because he, like Coolidge, has blue eyes.

In a strange paradox, the US Congress, over the decades, has weakened the presidency by the granting the executive branch more powers.

Abraham Lincoln only had to deal with seven secretaries in his cabinet. Trump had 15 secretaries, three directors, two administrators, and one trade representative in his cabinet.

So on paper it seems like the president has gained more power, but in fact, it is the permanent government bureaucracy (deep state) which has increased power and regularly exercises this power by limiting executive decisions.

Eventually, this structure will have to be overturned. A sclerotic bureaucracy that is primarily concerned with its own survival and interests cannot respond to the needs of the citizens and a quickly-changing world.

Trump made some bizarre appointments i.e Barr etc. which any lucid person would not make. He was told to appoint them.

By whom?

I can’t believe you missed it !

Amazing coincidence re: mentioning Cal because I started a thread asking about him just the other day.

It was the election of Milei in Argentina that got me thinking...

Trump 2.0 I think we can agree is the biggest threat to the deep state they have ever had.

If you believe the rhetoric...

I’ve never heard a would-be (soon to be!) president speak like him before ?

If Trump fulfills those promises it will be consequential

JFK also emptied the mental hospitals which eventually became the American homeless.

He unionized federal employees.

Signed the first affirmative action law.

He ran on chain migration and tried to pass his immigration dream which eventually passed as his 1965 Immigration bill.

The President’s Commission on the Status of Women endorsed workplace equality, child care facilities for working women, paid maternity leave, better Social Security benefits for widows, and equal pay for comparable work.

The War on Poverty (an idea he had rolled out during the campaign) sought to alleviate penury, especially among the elderly, by pushing for Medicare and expanded Social Security benefits.

He used federal troops to ensure the enrollment of black students at the universities of Mississippi and Alabama; his administration implemented the first “affirmative action” program for government employees and contractors.

He sent over 16,000 troops to Vietnam.

Had his teenage girlfriend fellate his friend at the White House.

Kennedy endorsed the United Nations as “our last best hope,”

He withdrew for the Cuban rebels the sufficient air cover they needed at the Bay of Pigs.

Bush I was indeed one of the worst presidents in American history, followed closely by his gope, controlled-opposition, uniparty son.

imho, he just didn’t have enough time to blunt RR’s economic and geo-political momentum for us, as Perot (and Clinton), thank God, did him in before he could really get going.

unfortunately, he did do a lot political damage to America, effectively reversing the political changes in the GOPe started by RR and his movement. imo, that was the real damage done to us by Bush I.

I wasn’t saying that the control issue was hogwash...

I was just saying that JFK, etc. was no different than every President (good or bad) since T.R.

They get to that office having made many deals with bad people... Either, or both, corrupt thieves and communists...

Certainly since the 90-years that I have been alive...

Agree.

Not a coincidence that George H. W. was CIA director — in the US, the ultimate post for an elitist who believes his birthright is to be a law unto himself.

What is it Chuckie Schumer says? “The intelligence community can get you six ways from Sunday...”

I agree 100%.

I think he’ll go scorched earth, starting by releasing all on the Epstein Island visitor list.

I think he’s using this strong language so he can have a mandate when he goes in there. Nobody can accuse him of bait and switch.

You forget outsourcing, offshoring, Amnesty, 1986 Gun control... and appointing Bush as VP.

“...the Great RR. and he was definitely a real president. “

If that was so he wouldn’t have taken Bush as VP.

yes. they’ve been in the driver seat for a long time. sadly, i was clueless about the deep-state and our corrupt gov’t/political/judicial system for most of my life.

they’ve probably been in control since very soon after Ike created them. certainly they seemed to have young JFK on a string. just look at the bay of pigs and the diem fiasco they manipulated him into. he really was reacting a lot. and then of course they arranged for his demise too.

True. He was still more independent thinking than other recent candidates/presidents.

Old enough to know even in 1980 that “moderate” Bush (as they were referred to then) was not a real conservative.

Don’t feel like the lone ranger. To use Reagan’s parlance, I “trusted” my government but did not “verify” what was going on in it (nor did I keep watch on other critical institutions, such as the education system) because I was too busy with my own life. I have repented of that mistake!

His father made many of the deals…….he pulled all the strings. Joe Jr would have been pushed into the office if he hadn’t been killed during the war.

imho, after years of preparation i didn’t know about until later in my life, RR did everything he had to do to win that election at that pivotal moment in US history.

i lived it all, as an adult starting in the 70’s, so i’ll have take my own personal experience over whatever you’re relying on. i guess you and i will have to part ways on RR.
