The Mourning Jewelry Museum looks quite interesting...I will have to check it out later on today, or perhaps tomorrow...I like to see odd things such as this, things which have existed in the past of our human history...its always remarkable to me, the things that people come up with...things come and go, but its always important to me, that they are documented somewhere so that generations in the future, can have a look, perhaps scratch their heads, and wonder what in the world life was like to many years ago....

Like all the big events in human history, things like wars, and inventions, even the little things are important...thanks for the link...

Well, time to get busy...have shopping to do, foods to cook, and some yardwork to do...hopefully will be able to be back online later....

Tho it appears, most DDs are off and having a fine time today, Labor Day, being the close of the summer season, yet the gateway to back to school, and the Holiday season yet to come....

See ya all later...

If you would have got your new glass eye before the weekend, then you wouldn't be so pooped, but No!, you wouldn't listen, would you? And that damned pegged leg is swelling too much in this humidity, and the chafing, but its your bed ;-)

I suggest you dump the bloody parrot, give it back to that lush, AC...

Good evening all....Happy Labor Day, tho the day is almost ended....we did some work today around the house, and then I went to the store, and did some gruesome food shopping, lightened only by picking up a number of miniature rose bushes....the store was jammed, the lines were long, but everyone was in a good mood, so it was ok....

Got home, BigDom unloaded the car, I put things away, and we commenced to enjoying Happy Hour...we have been toasting the end of summer, the beginning of the Holiday season, the crispiness of the fall weather, and toasting whatever strikes us as pertinent....needless to say, we have downed many choice beers, and as a result, I am feeling quite happy and content...

And onto thoughts of Labor Day, and my most pleasant memories of such....as said before, while growing up, we always went away for the three day Labor Day weekend, usually to somewhere near the Mississippi River, as my dad so loved that river...even once married and with kids, Labor Day was not Labor Day, unless I went camping with mom and dad and had the boys in tow...both my boys were camping before they were one year of age, so they grew up sleeping in tents, and camping, and found being in the out of doors, from morning till night, to be a grand way o spend a vacation or a weekend...

Camping over Labor Day weekends, we have run into some characters, or memorable folks....There was the group of about 2-3 couples, who pulled in probably about 2am....they pulled in, sounded as if they were either drunk or stoned on something, and loudly and with constant laughter, proceeded to try to put up their tent...they were loud, and boisterous, and sounded as if they were having a devil of a time getting that old tent up..but they finally did, and no one did see them again, until late the next day..I guess they were snoozing it off, but they gave us all a good laugh...

Then there was the family that pulled in, and proceeded to unload their car, and get out the tent to set up...they had everything laid out, when all of a sudden, the dad let go with a terrible scream..."Ah, Sh1t , where is the spider for the tent?" For those who do not know, some tents are rigged with what is called 'spider'...its a heavy multi pronged hunk of metal, and its goes on the top of the tent, and all the top poles slide onto the prongs, and the lower poles attach to those top poles slid onto the spider...no spider, no tent....the dad was swearing and hoillering, the mom was crying, the kids were making faces...it was all too hilarious...thank goodness, they lived not too far from the campground...dad drove off, swearing, and went home, tore up the garage, and found the spider..returned to the campground and the family at long last, set up their tent...my own dad, said to remind him, when it came time to buying a new tent, to never buy a tent that relied on having a spider....

One Labor day, in the middle of the night I woke up to find myself all of a sudden kind of wet...good grief, our tent sprung a leak, it began to rain in the middle of the night, and the whole floor was soaking wet...we spent the rest of the night, trying to bail out the tent...what a mess..but in the morning, we just hauled all the wet gear out, and hung it out to dry in the autumn sun...

And then there was the Labor Day, when me and my brother and mom went swimming, and dad remained in the campground, wanting to take a nap, because he had worked all night, and came home and loaded us all up and off we went, driving for hours to get to the Mississippi...we set up the tent, and we went swimming while dad slept...while swimming a bad thunderstorm came up, and we went running back to the campground...dad had been sleeping outside in the lounge chair, and we all ran towards the car, trying to get in out of the rain....we were all soaked from swimming and the rain, and as we sat in the car, we laughed and talked...then dad said, "Hey, where is my new hat?(Dad got a new vacation hat every single season)..we all looked around, and all we could find was a melted huge family sized Hersheys bar, that dad had bought, and foolishly left in the car...It was melted...what a mess...

When the rain let up, and we got out of the car, there was dads hat, smashed flat...apparently when he ran into the car, his new straw hat, was on the seat, and in his hurry to get in the car, he sat on it...it was flattened beyond repair...oh how we laughed, when dad tried to straighten it out, and tried to wear it...he looked like an idiot...it was such fun....smashed hats, and melted hershey bars...what is next, we thought...

And of course, when we went camping, it always would happen, that something important would wind up being left behind at home...one year it was the pancake turner(try turning over easy eggs with a knife)...one year it was the can opener(dad used his trusty penknife to cut the tops of the cans, and we kids hoped we were not ingesting metal particles from the lids)..one year it was the toilet paper(only outhouses provided, so dad told us to use leaves...thank goodness none were poison ivy or poison oak)...it was always something.....but funny, how those little lapses, the things that go wrong, are the things you remember and hold dear...

If every camping trip went off perfectly, or without some sort of blow up or fight, or without forgetting some important piece of equipment, I do suppose the trip would not be so memorable...theres a lesson in there somewhere...for all the things that go wrong, there is always a pleasant memory, about that thing, once on has gotten beyond it...and perhaps its the things that go wrong, that give us character...

But the most memorable people I ever met while camping over Labor Day, was the one group of people we ran into on my last Labor Day weekend, before BigDom and I moved to North Carolina....Me and the boys(Mike was now 7 and Andy was just 3, went with Mom and Dad for what we knew would be our last Labor Day Camping Weekend together...so we wanted to really enjoy ourselves...

Later in the day, after we were all set up, an old truck, with a camper shell on the back....an older gent, a big man, and his older wife, a big gal, got out, and started moving a number of tables together...soon other old cars pulled in, and they appeared to be the married sons and daughters of this couple....they appeared to have about 6 married adult kids, all with their own flock of kids...boy they were a big group...

Anyway, the adult kids all had their own tents...the tents were older, the clothes they all were wearing were older and worn, but clean....and they just all seemed to be having the best time, getting all set up...pretty soon, my Mike went over there, as all he had to play with was Andy, and considering that Andy was only three, Mike still considered him a baby....so over Mike went, to find some new playmates...

The kids were friendly, and soon Mike had taken off with all these kids, and they welcomed him as one of their own..they played all sorts of games together, and had a swell time, as only kids can do...

Soon it came time for dinner..Mike came running over, saying that these people had invited him to share dinner with them, and he wanted to, so he wanted to know if that was ok...well, of course we let him, but I was unsure of what they were going to have to eat, and if Mike would like it...so we made sure we saved some burgers and hot dogs, for Mike, when he returned if he needed them...

Well, as evening approached, Mike returned, and asked if we had anything left from our dinner....he said he ate what he could of these peoples food, but their main meal was cabbage, potatoes, and small pieces of beef...not exactly Mikes favorite, tho he did eat their food, to be polite...so we fed Mike, and wondered about the financial situation of these group of people...

The next day, all the kids and Mike played together again...now my mom always brought 4X more food than we really needed...she always wanted to be ready in case someone was especially hungry, or just wanted to have extra food on hand, should it be needed(I think she came to be that from growing up during the Depression, and knew what it was like to have food in short supply)....

So Mom grilled up a huge bunch of hot dogs, and then called all the kids over...all those kids had hots dogs, ,and potato chips, ,and pop, and cookies, and acted as tho they had feasted as kings....it was a pleasure to feed those kids...

We then got to talking with these people...you know, they were simple, hard working, fairly uneducated people...mom and pop had a small truck farm, some of their kids graduated high school(of which they were dearly proud), others of their kids had not graduated, but were nonetheless holding jobs....none of them had big time paying jobs, probably just minimum wage...they all had several children...but mom and dad were proud as proud could be of their grown children, and just busting proud of all their grandchildren...mom and dad were proud that all their children were working, as dad did not believe that the 'public dole' means of survival was acceptable...

He thought a decent man, works a decent job, for a decent living...kind of like a good message for Labor Day...now these folks were at least lower income, if now downright poor...but they were kind, decent, family oriented, and proud of what little progress their family had made...all their adult sons and sons in law were working, the adult daughters and daughters in laws were stay at home moms, with small to large families....the grandkids were all polite, well behaved, and obviously well loved....

They had old cars, old tents, old clothes, old shoes, and even their food, would have been considered less than desirable by most...but they were happy, they were fun, they were trying, and they hoped that the future generations of grandkids would accomplish more than either their grandparents of parents did...and they would do that through education....they had not much in the way of material goods between all of them, and yet, they appeared to be exceedinly happy, with what little they did have...family and family unity seemed to be what held them together, made them happy and proud...

Compare them to the extremely wealthy, where the children are often raised by nannies, where social status, and playing the social game are part of life, and the rise and fall of the stock market are of life and death importance, where the children often are maladjusted...

I am not saying that wealth necessarily causes problems, and that being poorer is somehow more noble...what I am saying, is that material goods are of secondary importance, to the love of a good family....

I will never forget that whole group of family, and have often wondered how they all fare in life...I know, I sure enjoyed meeting them, talking with them, and appreciating them...

My remembrances of Labor Day camping trips....it always gives me much to reflect upon...

Good morning Kathy.. The spots are gathering momentum, and my teeth are still on the loose.. I have been gumming it all weekend.. It's a b!tch with corn on the cob..;)

I was just up in the sewing/laundry room, looking at my stock of fabric. I found some for the den I believe.. Four windows, and I have no lining material left. So..that means I make a trip to another town for some lining, or make some under-curtains which will act as a liner.. Lots of work, and I don't know if I'm that happy with the fabric for the under-curtains. Will do some more fingering, and thinking on it. I would hate to have this nice drapery fabric fade...but you know what, I'll never have them cleaned anyway.. lol

Good morning AC.. That last pic you posted last night is beautiful.. I love all the different colors of green in the hills on the shoreline..

Oh by the way... Have you been giving off these kind of G-spot type of things. They seem to be all over the place..and they don't match my eyes... They seem to be flesh colored or reddish.. I really would preferr dark blue... ;)
