A University of Kansas religion professor apologized for an e-mail that referred to religious conservatives as "fundies" and said a course describing intelligent design as mythology would be a "nice slap in their big fat face."
In a written apology Monday, Paul Mirecki, chairman of the university's Religious Studies Department, said he would teach the planned class "as a serious academic subject and in an manner that respects all points of view."
The department faculty approved the course Monday but changed its title. The course, originally called "Special Topics in Religion: Intelligent Design, Creationisms and other Religious Mythologies," will instead be called "Intelligent Design and Creationism."
The class was added to next spring's curriculum after the Kansas State Board of Education decided to include more criticism of evolution in its standards for science teaching. The vote was seen as a big win for proponents of intelligent design, who argue that the universe is so complex that it must have been created by a higher power.
Critics say intelligent design is merely creationism — a literal reading of the Bible's story of creation — camouflaged in scientific language.
Mirecki's e-mail was sent Nov. 19 to members of the Society of Open-Minded Atheists and Agnostics, a student organization for which he serves as faculty adviser.
"The fundies (fundamentalists) want it all taught in a science class, but this will be a nice slap in their big fat face by teaching it as a religious studies class under the category mythology."
Mirecki addressed the message to "my fellow damned" and signed off with: "Doing my part to (tick) off the religious right, Evil Dr. P."

. I started paying attn to these clowns when they celebrated a Republican loss. "That'll show those creationists!" Put me in mind that their pet issue comes first, and conservative welfare second. When I took issue with their celebration and their general nasty deportment to any who disagreed with them, I started noticing a striking similarity in discourse. If you have ever corrected student essays, you start smelling such things quickly.
And the hateful little gangups. I also despise bullies, even online bullies who only bully with rhetoric, and I relish how they attempt to gang up , then stop their little Eton-esque ears and squeal, "I'm ignoring you, I'm ignoring you. If you post to me, I'm calling the mod."
Science. Right.
The evo-club. The agenda is isolating some Fr evo-doubter and calling him or her "stupid." Then they call in reinforcements and pile on.
I can't stop it. But--they are in bad faith.

A fascist is a bully. He attempts to control by force or intimidation. In economic terms, he doesn't own the means of production--he owns the producers, through fear.
Or even nastiness. Some people don't like being treated with sneering condescension. Sometimes they don't even continue in a discussion because of it. I guess you could call some means of rhetoric "fascistic"--particularly since rhetoric is all we have here.
I really dont care at all about your health...why would that matter to me? Your health is your own business, and no one elses...You made some great leap there, to think that what I said, made any mention of your health, in the sentence you quoted..I merely mentioned, that you do seem to have a lot of time waste...that has nothing at all to do with ones health...it has to do with how one choses to use their time...
As for calling the mods, I have almost never witnessed anyone calling on the mods, unless there are outright threats, pure racial putdowns, arguments that get too overheated(and folks begin saying things they should not), very vulgar swearing...in other words, people get the mods called when they break one of JRs rules...if one is guilty of breaking JRs rules they deserve to have the mods alerted...
Gangups occur on different threads all the time...why is it, that what you perceive as a 'gangup', only bothers you here on the evo threads?
And I can smell things quickly, it hardly takes grading students essays to smell things that are rotten...
Personally, to me, if someone requests that you stop posting to them, its the gracious thing to just stop posting to them...obviously others may feel differently about that...but if someone does not want to hear from me, I do respect their wishes(tho no one has ever told me to stop posting to them)...

I prefer facts and well-reasoned arguments myself.
I will respond to anyone who feels the same, and posts accordingly, but disruptors are not worth responding to. Name-calling is certainly unnecessary on these threads.
Thanks for the pic and the link about the common scold, which had another link to the 'scolds bridle'...I once saw a mystery, on TV, called the 'Scolds Bridle', and the link mentioned a novel, upon which this TV mystery was probably based..this gave me a little historic perspective into a device, which played a role in a modern mystery...

You could put me on "virtual ignore" like Right Wing Professor did (I'd like to ping him as a courtesy, but I'm not allowed), or threaten "Second Warning" like Georgiaguitarman (likewise). I even tried to find out what "virtual ignore" meant, since I've been on this forum since '98 (I don't know why it says 2000) I've never heard of a "ignore" rule. Patrick Henry has also warned me that I'm not allowed to talk to him--that little "common scold" was from him. He likes to get nasty and then run to Nanny when I talk back.
So, you can call it science, you can call it play, you can call it whatever.

Actually, I find your posts enlightening...I hate it when anyone gets banned or any post gets eliminated...because I like to see what that person is like, and their posts reveal much about them...so you can post away as much as you like, and it certainly does not cause me any grief, or any such thing...

Indeed, posts can reveal much. And--it can be fun to delve into archives. But you seemed upset, so I offered an explanation. I'll try to lose the self-pity.

You do yourself ill, by trying to guess what I feel..you seem to project what you think I should feel...well, so far you have been wrong most of the time...I am certainly not upset, if you knew me in real life, you would quickly find out, that rarely do I get upset over much, and frankly getting upset over a conversation on the internet, with someone I dont even know, is a collosal waste of time...I read FR, to get informed, to see various opinions, and the reasons behind those opinions...FR can be interesting, informative, enlightening and even a great deal of fun, depending on the particular thread...
But I dont get upset on FR...I do have a real life, and in that real life, there is enough that can upset me...
And that real life is calling me now...time to get off the computer, and help the hubby set up one of our many Christmas Trees(he never gets it straight, he needs my eagle eye to set things straight)...then its time for a brew...
I am sure we will be seeing each other again, on one post or another...have a good evening...
