Recent job ad: H1 transfers (Taking American Jobs)
Dice.com

Posted on 04/08/2003 12:45:08 PM PDT by 1stFreedom

Folks,

I've been looking for a job for weeks without success. While searching on Dice.com, I found an ad targeting anyone with an H1 visa to transfer!

Whoever says workers on visas don't take jobs from Americans is smoking crack.

Foreign workers send money "home" thereby taking money out of the US economy. They take both old and new jobs away from Citizens. This might be fine during times of economic boom, but it's a shame during times like now.

Call and write your representatives in Congress asking them to, on an emergency basis, deny ALL H1 and L1 visas and related transfers. They may give you the excuse that they don't want to have the jobs shipped overseas, but don't accept that excuse. Ask them to impose heavy tarrifs or taxes on corporations that relocate thier IT work.

Tons of IT people have been out of work for some time now, and it's reached a boiling point.

I hate to say it, but I think we'll have more success with the Dems then the Pubbies.

(One thing the Pubbies are not considering is that many IT professionals are in fact incorporated and are small businesses.)

His employer did NOT give him a chance to get American citizenship. You don't know what you're talking about.

No, it is you who is missing the point. For H-1B the perspective of green card and later citizenship can be so attractive that he might be willing to work for much less. Even if it required to share crowded appartment, be separated from the family etc ... In addition he might accept abuse, excessive number of hours. That way the visa program gives employer a special leverage tool where the perspective of ctizenship becomes part of pay.

Americans can take jobs, that pay whatever it is and that isn't servitude. What the companies who make it off the backs of H1s do, is to con their employees. They wake up, after a while and get better paying jobs.

If H-1B workers could change the job anytime they wanted without losing their visa status it would level the playing field. On the other hand Americans cannot enter into many years work contract under sanction of being sent abroad, so they cannot outbid it.

That isn't " servitude ". Look up the meaning of the word.

Of course, strictly speaking it is not. But in some aspects it is equivalent of it, so using the term servitute is a shorthand way to express the problem.

Nowhere, did Gaas say anything about " open borders "; that's your own paranoia speaking, dear,

The tendency is toward free trade, unregulated free market and toward removal of concept of common national good as opposed to the exclusive private ownership rights. This all leads in the end to the divorce of capital from labor and removal of the national borders.

When nations stop to be ultimate owners of national wealth while individual owners and private international corporations take their place the national borders lose their meaning.

Here's the bottomline for me ... if he becomes an American citizen and BECOMES an American ... he has every right to work live and seek happiness in this country. BUT if he is some foreigner here to make a quick buck and leave without contributing to our country other than paying taxes while he's here, I want him OUT OF HERE period .... end of story

No , you can't get a green card THAT easily. You have absolutely NO idea who Gaas is, yet YOU and the others here, are so blind, that you spat hatefilled, childish, erronious garbage all over him ... ignoring what else he posted.

You haven't a clue; all bluster, confused thinking, errors of fact, misuse of certain words ( do you know what IS means; how about alone ? ), and complete disregard of the concept of nationhood, governance, and what America is all about ! You are blinded by emotion and your own petty concerns. And you call yourself a Conservative ?

You and your buddies, don't even know a thing about green cards and getting citizenship, yet you continue to post one misleading, error filled post after another.

SHAME ON YOU !

Looks like you are losing my temper, my friend - read my member name.

I also would like to know the answer to the question posted by jmc813:
"Might I respectfully ask what you do for a living?"

They were opened when the Republicans gained control of the House and the Senate.

Imagine if the Democrat candidate for President in 2004 runs on a domestic employment platform, and our economy isn't significantly better than now. Millions of out of work techies will say: Thanks Dubya for mowing down Saddam, now we don't need you anymore you're fired!

They have to offer jobs to American workers first.

In principle -- but in practice can they not craft the requirements so as to pretty well restrict to H1Bs.

Bush barely got to power because the left wing vote was split by Nader and because Buchanan followers decided to vote Republican. Next election will be very different.

Sorry pal ... I have lost my job to these interlopers and so have a lot of my friends. The are not citizens and DO NOT belong here taking American jobs. If he was a citizen I would not have a problem. I don't give a tinkers DAMN if he's working on his green card or not. If he can get a job where it does NOT displace an American worker ... more power to him. BUT dumping these people on our shore so that idiots like you (yes I'm assuming you have some STUPID vested interest in this) can make an easy buck is ANTI-American in my book ... so you can cram it

That's what happened to his old man. And it just isn't techies. How many manufacturing jobs have been eliminated in the last 2 years?

Especially our military. Can you imagine if India decided to boycott us and our military software was in their hands. Kind of like our MRE's are made in France. Can you imagine if the French Muslims decided to cook up a batch of virus and put in out military food because they didn't like us going to war with Iraq? Wow, what a disaster. Our government officials have sold us down the drain to fill their wallets, it's time to let them know we are sick of this crap.

You are funny, I would bet that there are millions of americans who work just as hard as you and who are every bit as smart or smarter than you. I don't think this technology was invented in your home country was it? It was invented here by a bunch of americans working for the department of defense.

I think the best thing to do is to invent new software and hardware technology right here in the good old USA. It always takes 8 to 10 years before the foreigners pick up on that which gives us all jobs. Maybe this time we could create a new software technology that requires an american citizenship to use and build product with thus kicking the competition out of the mix completely. Crazy idea but have you noticed that nothing new has come along since the internet? The technology itself is stale, software needs to come up to date with new ideas so that hardware can again grow in the market, etc.
