Britt Hume Comment regarding London attack
The Huffington Blog ^ | July 7, 2005 | David Sirota

Media Matters points out that Fox News' top anchorman, Brit Hume, gave us a glimpse into just how cynical, greedy and disgusting the right-wing's outlook on the world is:

"My first thought when I heard - just on a personal basis, when I heard there had been this attack and I saw the futures this morning, which were really in the tank, I thought, 'Hmmm, time to buy.'" - Fox News's Brit Hume, 7/7/05

I saw this comment while slumming at DU. I did a search here but found no posts on the subject. We need to refute this comment, as I am certain it was either taken out of context or is a flat out lie. (especially so considering the source!)

Does anyone have more info?

I heard him say it. The context was a discussion of the terror effects on the Market. But even so, the remark seemed a little crass to me given the timing ... so soon after the bombings had occured.

Using the words "cynical, greedy and disgusting" in the presence of somebody like Arianna Huffington might be construed as a personal attack.

Will you all tell me why some of you are posting from the Huffington blog now? I would not give that woman the time of day or any hits to her site. This is turning into DU we get so many of their stupid comments on here. What happened to news -- we already know DU are a bunch of nutcases along with Huffington.

What am I missing and don't tell me that we have to know what the other side is thinking -- don't need DU or Huffington to speak for anyone.

I love it when someone reports someone else's comment with absolutely no meaningful context. It's so dishonest.

I am so glad this loser Huffington decided to switch sides. She was a complete embarrassment as a commentator for us and she is even worse for the left.

Two thoughts. Does Fox have a transcription service.

Call her on it. The burden of proof rest on her. SHE is claiming to be quoting him, the time and show must be cited otherwise it is just another in a long list of manufacture lies by the Hysteric Left

That's the best question of the day.

I concur. Her blog is unworthy of publication here.

It'll be seen by more poeple here in one day, than she'll have hits for the entire month.

AND, who gives a rip about her opinion? I do NOT.

I remember Brit Hume saying it while watching his show. Keep in mind his show was not scheduled to be a defeatist mourn-fest, but rather to provide financial analysis. At least he wasn't jumping for joy like those sicko Democrats.

It makes absolutely zero sense to me and like onyx said -- who cares what she thinks. I cannot understand why a conservative would want to give her any publicity at all or DU for that matter.

I heard him say it as well. I agreed with him. When Conservatives start apologizing for the desire to make money, we will have lost the war against the Liberals.

Opportunities to make money come and go, taking advantage of those opportunities does not bring back the dead, nor is it disrespectful of them.

Don't buy into Political Correctness. I am sure that Brit Hume donates thousands of dollars of his own money to charitable causes. Money made by taking advantage of opportunities to accumulate wealth. Never apologize for making money.

He was on NEAL CAVUTO'S SHOW. Neal asked him about the markets.

It's not as if he quipped this at the top of his NEWS show. He was a talking head on a FINANCIAL show.

Okay, I actually heard the comment and it was taken out of context. Brit saw that the Market had tanked during the early morning hours and had rebounded before the opening bell and he stated that obviously there were those who took advantage of the cheap prices and thought it a good time to BUY.

Huffington reeeeely needs to find something she can do...'cause she is a total LOSER when it comes to politics.

Semper Fi,
Kelly

It was on Cavuto. NOT on Brit's own show.

Telling people to buy is a positive sign and dont see anything wrong with it. After 911 i remember TV Commercials running telling people to invest in the stock market. Looks to me he was give good advise given the fact that the market rebounded rapidly.

why some of you are posting from the Huffington blog now?

The purpose was simply to try and verify it as being either true or not true (I assumed it was not). One person here has already confirmed he said it. But this comment may have been taken out of context.

I did several google searches and looked at Fox News website, but did not find any info on this.

Yes, I have no respect for Huntington or DU. But if we are being attacked (Britt Hume is conservative and they lump us all together), then we need evidence to support our defense.

My post was clear as to the source.

Thank you
