Romney: Gay couples raising kids is the American way
palmettoscoop.com ^ | 06/06/07 | The Editor

An AP article just came across the wire detailing another gaffe by presidential hopeful Mitt Romney (R-Mass.). Apparently, while in New Hampshire, Romney was confronted by an openly gay women who was disturbed by the former governor’s position on gay marriage. And in challenging him, she may have unwittingly changed or re-changed or re-re-changed his position on “gay rights.”

“There are other ways to raise kids that’s fine: single moms, grandparents raising kids, gay couples raising kids. That’s the American way, to have people have their freedom of choice,” he said.

Umm… what? We’ve lost track now, but we thought Romney opposed gay adoption and gay marriage. We have stopped being surprised by his all-too-often position changes - even from one month to the next - but we certainly never expected him to say “gay couples raising kids” is “the American way.”

But then Romney repeated his view of marriage.

"Marriage is an institution which is designed to bring a man and woman together to raise a child and that the ideal setting for society at large is where there is a male and a female are associated with the development and nurturing a child," Romney said.

The former Massachusetts governor acknowledged other scenarios that raise children.

"There are other ways to raise kids that's fine: single moms, grandparents raising kids, gay couples raising kids. That's the American way, to have people have their freedom of choice," he said.

Funny how the story changes when you include all of the facts and not just those that fit your agenda.

Yup... it sure DOES!  Did he say anything between the two quotes were the BLUE text is?

If so; why is it missing??

If not, then the statements go together, like this:

"Marriage is an institution which is designed to bring a man and woman together to raise a child and that the ideal setting for society at large is where there is a male and a female are associated with the development and nurturing a child,  There are other ways to raise kids that's fine: single moms, grandparents raising kids, gay couples raising kids. That's the American way, to have people have their freedom of choice," he said.

I’m no Romney supporter, but this is an unfair attack. The ‘American way’ comment clearly refers to it being the American way to generally allow people to raise kids & organize their families as they see fit, i.e., freedom from government dictating that kind of stuff.

I’m curious about your evidence. Do you have anything empircal or is it anecdotal?

The American aka World way is not the biblical way, and that is the differential Romney was politly saying!

Hate to break the news to you but you are not the only ones living on the planet or in America!

Do you want to be contentious with the obvious?

There are people estrange from the biblical norm the scriptures talk of them and there is a passage in the scriptures that commands us to “Love One Another”!

This is not about condoning that life style, but being mean, name calling, hateful is not the solution either nor is it the biblical way!

Surely not the Lord if you follow his commandments!

But then Romney repeated his view of marriage.

You guys are just Morman haters.

Where'd that come from? People are opposed to gays raising kids and they're Mormon haters? What a leap. It makes a connection that I don't think you intended.

A Mormon who misspells *Mormon* as M-o-r-m-a-n? Why does it suddenly look to me like someone who’s trying to cause trouble?

Oh please; you ignore the quote where he said it was “fine” for gays couples to raise, and adopt children.

I don’t care how much you quote that it PROVES that Mitt Romney is a flip-flopper, becuase in the SAME quote he CONTRDICTS HIMSELF!

go away with your defence of him! it’s indefencable!

Welcome to FR. Since you misspelled Mormon also, can we presume that you’re not Mormon either? So why do you sign up today and start telling us all what to do?

I think that's about the nth time you've used "Mormon haters." Does that mean you "hate" folks who say anything negative about LDS beliefs?

Check out a few of the Fred Thompson threads. See the venom spewed there by Romney supporters against Fred and his wife. No "hate" there. /sarc

How many times have you said to another who is contrary to your advice say “fine do it you way!

you were not pleased but what else could you do!

We are a free people and I believe in free will.

But my choice is to do the Lord will in my house, and it is in another house to chose whom they will serve!

I watched Fred on Fox after the debate, and i was far from impressed. He looked a little to tired for me.

You're just a HATER of tired people! He has a right to his tiredness, this is America!

that’s true, she has the freedom (infortunately) to raise her kids in a perverted way, but it doesn’t make it “fine”.
