Congressman Hunter Statement on Evolution:
DHgrassrevolt ^ | 7/31/07 | Duncan Hunter

Tuesday, July 31, 2007 Congressman Hunter Statement on Evolution:

The Declaration of Independence begins with these simple words, “We hold these truths to be self-evident.” Self-evident. Patently obvious. Completely clear. It is self-evident that “all men are created equal.” Not equal by government edict or by an act of a king or monarch. We are not equal by virtue of any particular article of the Constitution – we are created equal.

The Declaration continues…. “and that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights.” This is a vital component of what makes us a free society. We are raised from childhood in this country to accept the concept of human rights. That we as Americans are a free people. Included in those freedoms are freedom of speech, of the press… and freedom of religion. But, we often fail to teach our children why we are secure in those rights or should be. Why, as an American, you should expect the freedom to live your life as you see fit with a minimal of government interference. Why you should expect to be able to worship in the church of your choice without fear. What gives us the confidence that this is our heritage, our birth-right as Americans?

Freedom only works if we acknowledge what is so clearly set forth in the Declaration of Independence… that our rights come from the hand of Almighty God. If government gives you your rights… then government can just as easily take those rights away. Democracy easily turns to mob rule without the fundamental understanding that government of the people, by the people and for the people only works if an individual’s rights are unalienable … only if we, each, have a fundamental worth and dignity as a human being. And, that fundamental, unalienable worth only has validity if one acknowledges the true source of that worth and dignity…God.

When Chris Matthews asked one of my fellow candidates if he believed in evolution, the question was designed to embarrass my fellow Republicans. Whether or not, at some level, created beings adapt to their surroundings, or change to some degree over generations is not the right understanding of that question. The real question is this: Does God exist and did he create us? The liberties of every American citizen, including those of Chris Matthews, hang in the balance if we get the answer to that question wrong.

Impressive understanding.

And being creations of the Almighty, Hunter means all human life is sacred:

Hunter Reintroduces Legislation to Protect Unborn

Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Duncan Hunter (R-CA) will reintroduce legislation recognizing that life begins at conception. The Right to Life Act specifically acknowledges the personhood of the unborn as supported by the U.S. Constitution.

“Our greatest obligation as elected leaders is to protect the American people, especially those who are incapable of protecting themselves,” said Congressman Hunter. Our children, whether born or unborn, deserve the opportunity to grow and live in a society that values and respects life.

“On this anniversary of the Roe v Wade decision, it is important that we reflect on the 38 million abortions that have been performed in this country since the practice was legalized in 1973. This is a national tragedy that must not go unnoticed.

“This legislation ensures that the unborn are protected from abortion and further provided the same Constitutional protections provided to all Americans. I am proud to once again introduce this important piece of legislation and I hope my colleagues will join me in support of this effort as they have in the previous Congress.”

In the 109th Congress, the Right to Life Act was cosponsored by 102 Members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

Some don't grasp the significance of "guilt by association" or the other little "tell-tale" manifestations of liberal infestations around the edges. These usually only come to light after the general election and the "incumbent" is firmly encounsed in the "inside the beltway" culture of bureaucrazy!!!

I had to teach my young sons that "guilt by association" may not be "fair," but it is VERY real!!! I told them the sad tale of woe a young inmate in CA state prison told me while I was working as a CO in my youth. He said he simply jumped in when a car load of his buddies pulled over to the curb in that shiney new expensive car, thinking maybe it belonged to the driver's dad, or something. That got him a multi-year sentence to start out life with. So sad!!!

***I agree, the more I hear, the better I like this guy. He has a depth of character that has been absent in our party for a long time.

Yes, flirting with things such as pro-abortion groups, rights for illegal aliens, gun control, etc has consequences.

And the proof of that depth is the fact that there is zero ambuguity on what he says, what he stands for and what he has always stood for. No other candidate has that.

More politicians need to call out the questioner and say "That is not the right understanding of the issue".

The media always throws out leading questions because the media has an agenda. A candidate who is fast enough on his feet to say, "Whoa! Bad Question! Let me school you on that issue so you can understand my views accurately" is real plus.

So far, I've seen both Hunter and Romney do that.

It was great. Both Mitt and Hunter rejected the premise of some of the questions. That’s why for my money, over the three debates, these two did the best. Romney a bit more polished, Hunter a bit more stern.

Spoken brilliantly, as the true statesman Rep. Duncan Hunter is. In my book, he stands shoulder to shoulder with George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. We are so fortunate to have such a man running for the Republican nominee for President in this day and age.

Rasmussen Reports - Wednesday, August 01, 2007.....and four other candidates (Ron Paul, Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter, Tommy Thompson, and Sam Brownback) split 2% of the vote.

As admirable as Duncan is, until this dynamic changes, he will still make a GREAT Vice President under a Fred Thompson adminstration.
