Why are so many conservatives so blind to that fact?

Because they're party lapdogs first and conservatives when it's convenient.

I recently read a story that suggested that the GOP is unhappy with Virgil Goode for supporting Duncan Hunter, Tom Tancredo and (shudder) Ron Paul. Basically they're angry because he isn't supporting one of their approved RINOs.

Unfortunately, Duncan hasn't really lit up the conservative base, and if it doesn't happen in the next few weeks, I doubt it will. Money is not rolling in for any of the candidates as they wait for someone they CAN put their trust and money behind.

Fred is an avowed Federalist, and that means small government, lower taxes, sovereignty. His entry into the race will be an influx of new ideas and a way to communicate those ideas. It will be a campaign far different from any we have ever seen.

Duncan, good conservative that he is, doesn't have the name recognition. BUT as a VP he would have the pulpit he needs to become known to the rest of the country and the springboard to ready himself for the future.

And Fred is saying a lot of things that don’t mesh with his past record.

You mean, like Inhofe?

There is no candidate (declared or undeclared) that can walk in Hunter’s footsteps or fill his shoes. If those calling themselves conservatives don’t back him as long as he’s in the race, then they ought to take a seriously inward look at what exactly they think a conservative candidate should stand for. Methinks they are confused.

Ah , yes, the 'abortion-lobbyest' thing. Something you can't let go of anytime soon.

Just to be clear. 20 hours in a years time is not a whole lot of time. And his voting record speaks for itself. Pro-life. Pretty simple really.

If your man is so popular, why isn't he getting the support from the GOP itself or the other leaders in the Congress, or for that matter, conservatives across the country? I'll tell you why. Because in the history of the presidency only two have gone from the House to the White House. One was an exceptional leader, the other was a last ditch, seventh vote, take it or leave it compromise candidate. The odds are against it.

Fred's is a true grassroots draft. Something I believe a lot of the DH supporters can't get over.

Well written. Thanks for posting it.

Hunter’s version barely lost due to the ‘moderates’ in the party siding with Clinton, Rudy and Mitt.
***I’m starting to see this a lot in Hunter’s background.

When you get right down to it, there is scant difference between a conservative Democrat and a conservative Republican, because they both want what is best for their country, BEYOND party.

So conservative Duncan Hunter has UNIVERSAL APPEAL. He serves his country, not his party. I am right beside him on this. The RNC is far to the left of it’s conservative base, and has been since it deserted it’s Contract With America, so it will be interesting to see if we can rally enough numbers to make our voice heard in 08.

GO DUNCAN HUNTER!

Any Texans here? There is an upcoming straw poll in Texas which should be Hunter land, September 1 is the date, pre-registration now.

http://www.texasgop.org/site/PageServer?pagename=Straw_Poll_Home

Any of you know delegates? They are the voters in the poll:

Who can attend:
Delegates to the Straw Poll - Must have been a Delegate or Alternate Delegate to at least one of the last 4 Republican State Conventions (2000, 2002, 2004 or 2006) or one of the last 2 Republican National Conventions (2000 or 2004). If you have not received a registration packet in the mail and meet these qualifications, please email strawpoll@texasgop.org to request that a new registration packet be mailed to you. Be sure to include your current address and phone number in the email.

>Fred is a true grassroots draft.<

Never heard of him before March/07. But then I don’t watch much tv.

I would reword that statement to read, “Fred is a true Law and Order watched grassroots draft”.

With an actor you never know what you are getting. They switch roles where ever the spot light leads.

In Fred’s case, his Senate accomplishments didn’t amount to a hill of beans.

Like you I don't watch that much TV. So I wouldn't mischaracterize Fred in that way. Also, there is more to Fred than Law and Order.

The acting gig came AFTER he proved he was a pretty damn good lawyer. His record in the Senate speaks for itself. Some mistakes, but he has acknowledged them and moved his ideas forward.

I have to finsh this class for the day, but I will be on again in about 5 hours.

Have a good day.

Why anyone calling themselves a conservative could vote for Rudy is beyond comprehension. That picture alone is one of a hundred things that alone disqualify this liberal idiot.
