Bologna. If Hunter's nominated he'll attract the union and old Reagan Democrats.
You make a good point that many party line republicans won't like. The simple fact is that Reagan's GOP wasn't hell bent on destruction of the unions. Reagan was tough with them (see the airlines) but a true straight shooter who didn't avoid meeting with union members.
Since I'm already agitating republicans I may as well point out that a lot of the comments about unions I read here at FR sound almost like the global warming crap coming from the left. I was a "union thug" but was never issued a baseball bat, nor did I make $30 an hour, I made a little over $12 an hour as a paint tech. Many of my conservative friends are union members who have little use for democrats. Even more amazing to some would be the discovery that there are quite a few FReepers who are union members who quietly bite their tongues to get along here.
While Ron Paul isn't my guy, he is one of 3 honest men in the race. Hunter and Tancredo are the others.

very little name recognition, and a Congressman hasnt been ELECTED president in 100+ years. You gotta remember, FR is not representative of the nation as a whole. Duncan should have served in senate or governor first. Or serve as somebodys VP and then run.
Frankly, I think that about 90% of the electorate could care less about this. They're interested in ideas, and a vision as to the sort of America that the president wants. Is it a tax and spend, big government, gay friendly country that outsources its jobs and coddles Mohammedans? Or is it a frugal, limited government, traditional values nation that looks out for American citizens first and foremost? Given the option, I daresay the vast number of Americans would pick the second option.
Running Duncan Hunter against Hillary Clinton gives the electorate that choice. Nominating Frudy McRomney gives the electorate a choice between two politicians who share the first vision to varying degrees.
So why is the RNC so eager to make sure that we aren't given a choice?

Exactly and the lack of anchorage on the right is why I blame the GOP for the behavior of the democrats.

>Hunter’s been on the campaign trail for sometime now and still can’t get recognized in polling date nationwide. Yet a non candidate is blowing him away in national polls. That tells a lot about his electability or lack thereof amongst the populace.<
It is still very early in the race. Rep. Hunter is slowly building a solid base. If he doesn’t end up the Republican nominee, it will tell a lot about the lack of good conservative judgement of the electorate.

Thanks for that ‘creek. My hubby is a union member...36yrs. He’s a journeyman lineman. We hate democrats, but it’s difficult to get on the Republican train. This isn’t the only reason, but it’s a big one.

You may get your chance to run Thompson for president, but I guarantee Hunter will not be picked for the vp slot, no matter who gets the nomination. He might get a cabinet slot, but even that is doubtful.
In the event of Thompson getting the nomination, I would bet he will go with Romney or Guilianni. Wouldn’t it be a hoot if he picked McCain? No matter which way it goes, I will hope for the best. However, I believe it will be another four years wasted.

“Another great article showing once again that Duncan Hunter isnt tayloring his positions for an election, but has lived them for the last 27 years. Why are so many conservatives so blind to that fact?”
You make a good comment and ask a good question. I support Duncan Hunter because he has been consistantly saying and doing the same things for years, and I agree with him.
As far as I am concerned, voting for someone I disagree with, when I can vote for someone I agree with makes no sense. Electiblilty is based on whether the voters agree with the candidate, not based on a sales job.
I am voting for Hunter, and as soon as I can make a little overtime, I will restart sending some money his way.

Very early?....... Well only if you consider less than five months until the Iowa Causcuses as ‘very early’ and being stuck down in the bottom of the rankings as no problem. Like it or not it is well past time for someone that has been in the race since Oct. 30, 2006 to be somewhere more than a ‘—’ or ‘*’ on polling reports if he expects to be a winner or even a factor in the outcome.
As far as the judgement of the elecorate I’d say it may well also display the lack of ability by the candidate to sell himself to the electorate. After all that is what an election is about, selling one’s self and ideas to the voters.

Apparently some people don’t really care about honesty like Hunter’s. They prefer someone who tells them what they want to hear. Hunter is too good a man to lie to get elected.
