Im back! What a fun time. Where should I start? Well, only three of the Republican Candidates for President came to Wyoming today; Congressman Duncan Hunter, Senator Sam Brownback, and Fred Thompson. The latter only went to Casper this morning and did not travel on to Riverton for the second forum. Many candidates asked to send surrogates, but if you let one candidate do that, then they all will do it. Therefore the forum committee made it clear that only Presidential Candidates could speak at the forum. However, since Fred Thompson actually did come to Wyoming, his opening speech in Casper was videoed and played in the Riverton auditorium. It seemed fair enough.
What didnt seem fair, and actually ticked me off, was that Mitt Romney sent his son and a few others from his campaign. Well, Mitts son, Josh, started playing the I own land in Wyoming and pay property taxes in Wyoming card. So, not sure who made the decision, but someone decided to give Josh Romney 6 minutes to speak in Riverton on behalf of his father. Of course, the 6 minutes turned into more than 10. How fair is that to the other candidates who wanted to send surrogates? Not very. Not to mention, I thought it was a slap in the face to the candidates who actually bothered to come to Wyoming. Not sure if you realize it or not, but one actually does have to go out of their way to come here, though Mitt Romney is not one of those people.
After Josh Romney wrapped up his spiel, it was Congressman Hunters turn. Wow! He was spectacular. No surprise to me, but I spoke to several Republican friends who knew nothing of Hunter prior to the forum and could hardly wait to cast a ballot for him at our convention in January! I didnt take notes and Im not really not regretting it. Go here if you want to know where Duncan stands on the issues because he doesnt waiver and he has a long voting record that matches his stance on issues. I will tell you that Wyoming discovered Hunter today, and thanks to most of the candidates snubbing our state, I think Hunter will win here.
Ill give Senator Brownback some credit. I like Sam. He really is a stand up guy. I wish his stance on illegal immigration was different, but until that changes, I cant support him. Once again though, he is a great guy. I really think most of you would like him. Hes fairly young and will most likely run again in the future.
Agree! I am on fire for Duncan Hunter, only lukewarm about Thompson.
Hunter is a doer with a solid history. He would serve his country well as president.
The others will probably do okay but not much will change. More of the same-old, same-old. I would sincerely like to see the conservative movement take a giant step forward. Hunter will appeal to and bring in lots of new folks to the Republican party just like Reagan did in 1980 and 1984.
The Republican revolution in ‘94 would not have been possible without Reagan’s work a decade earlier.
And fwiw, I believe Hunter would make strong inroads to attracting the black and hispanic voters. Again, he has a strong history in this regard. Not by pandering to them but just by being his no nonsense, solidly conservative self.
OMalley, are you out there? Did you make it to see Duncan?
I think so. Seeing such a confident, no nonsense, no flip-flop leader should inspire a broad spectrum of AMericans. The leftie loons, however, will hate him worse than they did Reagan, if that is possible.
I see you bumped her blog. Cool.
I thought I had read that Milhous was considering going.
Ooopsie.
Is it his daughter?
>But I have researched his record probably more than any other human being and I am more impressed now....by a wide margin.<
Great report! I, too, have researched him thoroughly, and there is no other like Duncan Hunter! No not one! I hope he’ll buy a few spots on TV soon — All of America will love him, too! :)
There are tricks. Yesterday I helped a guy push a truck uphill over a curb. I suggested we start rocking it back & forth, and even though we were allowing some negative momentum at times, the end result was that the truck made it over, and could not have done it if we were only pushing the conventional way.
That’s why I keep pushing unconventional approaches for Hunter. Like getting a running mate early, one with lots of name recognition — perhaps Condi Rice or James Dobson.
He does not have a daughter. I believe it is Tammi, the author of this piece.
Running with tree loppers.
Hi doll. He needs to get his anti-China ads some national exposure.
Got it. Not paying attention to the now obvious difference between the author’s name and the poster’s name. I guess I usually think of these “first person/I was there” threads as being posted by the actual author and apparently Global2010 did the same and took me along for the ride. Profuse apologies.
We may agree on the Prez, but we don’t on VP. LOL. I’ll go for Ollie North, TOmmy Franks, Cheney (4 more years) or Jeff Sessions.
No worries. OTher than an insult to poor Tammi. LOL
I went to high school in Wyo. I’m glad you posted this, because I’ve got a FReepmail upcoming that’s tailor made for you.
I’m from Washington. Tammi is the author, not I.
“OMalley, are you out there? Did you make it to see Duncan?”
Ah, so we found a FReeper from Wyoming. Cool.
I know you’re from WA, but you should have FReepmail.
I couldn't vote for Mr. Hunter in the primary if James Dobson were his running mate. Dr. Dobson has done too many stupid things when he's tried to involve himself in politics. Dr. Rice would be an okay choice, but she isn't going to accept that position. Unconventional approaches are fine, but this one isn't likely to be a winner.
