There seems to be a school of thought among some Democrats that "swiftboating" cost Kerry the 2004 election.
Is there anybody here who was going to vote for Kerry, but changed their minds because of it?
LOL not that they would admit it.
Probably set the number at 1 now.
Maybe they didn't show up on election day, but it was a hard choice for them. They do love their traitors over there.
Doubt you’ll find anyone at FR that would have voted for Kerry at any time, regardless of the swift boat business.
I was thinking the same thing. This probably isn’t the correct venue to seek out any possible Kerry voters!
On Free Republic?
anybody HERE? Ya gotta be kidding
Truth hurts.
The Swiftboaters did what was right.
Their stated purpose was to illuminate J F'n Kerry's military record and recommend him 'unfit for duty' as Commander in Chief. They stated several times that they were NOT endorsing ANY other candidate.
Oh yeah, we here were all BIG Kerry supporters, until those damn swift-boaters got a hold of him and bamboozled us into switching our votes BACK to Dubya...
I have had the opportunity to meet many of the Swift Boat vets, and every single one of them I shook their hand and said a heartfelt “Thank you”.
They did exactly the right thing, and God bless them for doing it. They could have sat silently in the background, just watching the process unfold as spectators, but their patriotism and love of their country compelled them to speak out against that piece of human refuse, Kerry.
So many of our men were slandered by him and bore the scars of it for many years. As far as I am concerned, they DID cause him to lose the election, and a good thing it was, too. There is a special circle in hell reserved for people like John Kerry.
As my senator from Massachusetts, he is absolutely worthless as a legislator, and the only positive thing I can say about him is that he doesn’t do a damned thing, in comparison to Kennedy who does an immense amount of damage to our country because he DOES.
I drove around with this sticker on my rear window for about a year and a half, and I got plenty of fingers.
My NRA stickers on the back were probably the only thing that kept my vehicle from being vandalized.
Very unlikely you find someone on this site that changed their mind about Kerry because of SB. In the general population I’m sure that the SB’ers were a factor to some voters.
Sure there are some. What number? Who knows. Bush’s margin of victory was large enough that Kerry probably still would’ve lost. But at least history books will have to include some background on his post service Vietnam war activities.
Did the election eve release of GW Bush’s 30 year old DWI victory cost him votes? Definitely. Was there any impact by it? Well Al Gore’s margin of victory was only 0.51% of the popular vote. So it did cost GW the popular vote. So much for Al Gore’s brag. See how funny it would be to do away with the electoral college? And then need to do a NATIONAL recount?
Meanwhile Jean Kerry still hasn’t RELEASED his military record and journal. No, he’s only shared them with friendly associates. So his inability to disprove the claims and clear his name in this time points to some shady details. If he’d laid the record bare, at least no one could claim a coverup. But we are expected to believe the word of journalists at the Boston Glob.
Meanwhile Hillary’s secret is just to proclaim all bad news “old news” and dismiss everything as a falsehood. And this is “change”? A return to the reign of the Clintons? In spite of a Constitutional BAN on third terms???
Kerry will get reelected. What is really shocking is the fact that even with SwiftVets Kerry still got %48 of the vote. Go figure.
I sure as heck hope so cause I spent a lot of money to aid the Swift Boat cause. I gave more money to them than any candidate I had ever supported up to that point.
Best money I ever spent - do it again in a heartbeat.
ROTLF! Post this comment at DUmmieVille and watch what happens. :o)
Two things emerge.
1) The Swift Boat Vets probably had little or nothing to do with Kerry losing the election.
2) It was still worthwhile to "swiftboat" Kerry, not because his own Vietnam service mattered so much, but to clear up the slander he did afterward..
