Former Sen. Fred Thompson has taken some political heat all fall for his campaign's laid-back, slow-speaking style not exactly crammed with campaign events. Some, however, have found his style surprisingly pleasing and in sharp contrast to the grab-'em-by-the-shirt-and-listen-to-me style of others.

That was a very unselfish ad by Fred. Hopefully, this won’t be lost on most folks. Still, I would’ve inserted a little more promoting his candidacy.
Very beautiful but it should at least have said Fred Thompson/08.
I think it was utterly perfect.
Now- maybe something with a little more whiz-bang for New Year’s Eve would be good for the campaign.

Comparing this to the other candidates' Christmas ads is like his refusing to raise his hand for the whiny Des Moines moderator.

Let's see Rush play that ad a couple of times just to humiliate Harry Reid.

Very, very, very well done and played.
Like any good Christmas card, it had the sender’s name at the end. It didn’t promote Fred, his website or his campaign. It was all about the troops it so eloquently honored.
Unlike Huck’s religious pandering, Rudy’s fruitcake nonsense and Hillary’s “presents” that we have to pay for, Fred’s message was eloquent, selfless and first class all the way.
If you want more people to count, the idea is to get more people to listen. Politics is all about promoting your candidacy.
And without stooping down to the Huck/Mitt/Rudy level.
Subtle but direct, competently done, above the fray of the election, saying “It’s the Holidays, let’s stop with the politics and remember what is important”
It said that, it said “Merry Christmas from me, Fred Thompson, the American Citizen”.
Not the Candidate, not the Senator, not the actor, but their fellow American who simply wants to step out of the BS of the political season for a few minutes.
It will not be lost on anyone, and to cheapen such a tribute with petty political slogans, and even a Thomspson 2008 would have killed the effect. That is something the other guys would do, Fred is saying “I am better than that”...
The kind of voter FDT is after will be impressed, then there is his other ads for the rest.

There are somethings more important than politics and self.
And Fred knows it.
