Dutch political cartoonist Gregorius Nekschot was arrested on suspicion of violating the countrys so-called hate speech laws. It took a police team of 10 to accomplish the apprehension of Nekschot at his home, where he declined to resist arrest, much to the dismay of several of the officers. Police also seized his computer, sketches, CDs, DVDs, pencils, paper and telephone. The presence of several unclean comestiblesa can of Spam and a bag of fried pork rinds in his larder was also noted.
Nekschots cartoons have mainly mocked leftists and Muslim extremists, though the spokeswoman for his publisher said any strong ideology is apt to feel the sting of his satirical wit.
Amsterdam prosecutor Sanne van Meteren said Nekschots offense is a very serious criminal matter. Insulting these fanatics endangers everyone, she said. To tolerate his actions because of some theoretical freedom of speech ideal is to invite mayhem on our entire society.
The crimes for which Nekschot was arrested could net him up to a year in prison for each count. Prosecutors declined to disclose which of his cartoons instigated the charges. To name the cartoons involved would be to reiterate the insult and risk a violent response, van Meteren alleged. Everyone will have to trust us on this. Its for their own good.
The Islamic Jihad in the Netherlands has already issued a death sentence for the cartoonist and his publisher.

This is comical:
” ‘Everyone will have to trust us on this. Its for their own good.’ The Islamic Jihad in the Netherlands has already issued a death sentence for the cartoonist and his publisher”
I wonder is the government is pulling out the stops to find these islamofascists who issued the death threat. Seems as if the islamofascists are far more dangerous than the cartoonist’s “theoretical freedom of speech.

I hate hate I hate limits on speech and all nonviolent forms of political expression . Fear that my speech might incite others to violence is pure cowardice and is seen as such by the enemies of liberty .

I dislike the fact that the articles aren't marked Satire..HOWEVER having said that the reason a lot of us are duped is because the topics written about are believable given the political environment today!

The spam and pork rinds are a serious offense against the moslem community and must be severely punished.
