Some of you know I physically cared for my mother for years.
I want you to know that she passed away Tuesday, May 20, and I laid her to rest Friday in Colleyville (Fort Worth), Texas, next to my father.
It is fitting at any time, but especially so this Memorial Day, to write a few words about her.
She was 86.
The World War II generation.
The most important thing to her is that she was a Christian. The greatest love of doing in her life was teaching Bible classes to children and women. At that she was masterful, and even spent years teaching other would-be teachers how to do that.
She was also a public school teacher in her later years. Couldn't afford college while young, so waited until in her 50s to enter the university and earn her degree with a perfect grade average. Then taught as a substitute at many levels while searching for a permanent position, until finding one at her chosen level and school teaching fifth grade.
Mother retired in 1992. The highlight to her teaching career was to coach two of her students to win regional spelling bees and accompany them on their trips to Washington D.C. And these were back to back years. It doesn't get much better.
She was a loving wife of 56 years to my father, and a determined, strict but affectionate mother to my brother and me.
Born on a farm near Fort Worth, she was poor (her father worked for the owner) but rose above it through education and hard work. The country and small towns always appealed to her, and we took numerous trips to sightsee and soak up local lore while always ending up eating in Dairy Queens.
She loved her God, her family and her country. She had a smile that stayed with you forever. She was beautiful, inside and out. We disagreed, we had our battles, but fundamentally we agreed on everything most eternal and important in life.
I miss her terribly. But her frail body and mind can now be whole again, in a better land even than America.
My prayers go out to you; your mother sounds like a wonderful person who will be greatly missed.
You can’t do any better than to have the full and productive life your mother led. My deepest condolences to you and your family.

Since it’s Memorial Day, I’m doing a little genealogy. My mother’s family has roots deep in North Texas. Prayers for your family.
Prayers for your mom, who must have been a wonderful person. And for you, too. As you said, she’s whole in mind now...and happy, no longer old and sick, she’s with your Dad. My Mom, spoke to me at her funeral, and that’s what she said to me. Also, she said God forgives everything and that I should sit on her grave and talk about her and have a really good time. (Which is just what I did. I had a great time.) God bless.

Prayers for you and your family.
My sympathies to you in your time of grief. It sounds like she had a good life, and was a good mother, and wife.
Prayers for you and your family.
I’m sorry to hear of your mom’s passing, but what a wonderful legacy your mom has left with you all, txrangerette. Our prayers to you and your family.
Your Mother has done a tremendous job; your legacy is that she was who she was and from your comments and description, is fitting and well deserved.
May she rest in her Saviours presence.
Having lost my Father recently as well, I can understand your loss and grief. In that long hour, remember that you will be reunited for eternity; this separation and loss endures only for a while.
God Bless
What a very classy dame she sounds like! Surely God looked on her and saw His fine handiwork and welcomed her to his bosom.
My deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family over the loss of your mother. May God watch over you all at this difficult time.
You wrote a great tribute to your mother, and I know how hard it must be for you to lose her. You and your family have my deepest sympathy.
My sincere sympathy for the loss of your mother
One of God’s days, those who are now
Faithful to Jesus in life’s constant maze
Soon wil see light; then will they know
All of life’s meaning, one of God’s days.
One of God’s days, beautiful days,
We will in glory sing his praise.
Fighting’s all done, victories won,
We shall see Jesus one of God’s days.

May she rest in peace.
God bless you, neighbor- I know it’s hard.
My wife’s Mom slipped away, after a long hard battle last month-

and my own- the old Sergeant— left us March of 2003.
We won’t see their like again.
