Did Obama Register With Selective Service?

Posted on 06/07/2008 1:19:25 PM PDT by mondonico

I suppose you can't fault a candidate for not volunteering for the military, particularly in the late 1970s when Obama came of military age.

However, I do think it is important to know whether a male candidate for Commander-in-Chief registered for the draft. I remember doing it in 1981. Obama should have in 1979. I wonder if he did, given his foreign upbringing and foreign/lefty background.

Anyone know how to check this? The Selective Service website required birthdate and social security number.

My son just got his notice this week. So you have to notify them if you move? What is up with that?

The whole point of registering is so that they can find you when they need to. I'm waiting for someone to file an equal protection challenge since females are not required to register.

"That's the kind of moronic statement that people who haven't served tend to blurt out.

It comes from watching to many episodes of MASH.

It has become an "it's all about me" society, which has resulted in the death knell you, I, and many others are hearing.

I’m not a morning person, I think independently, and I hate being yelled at.

I've raised five kids, they were all like that....when they were seven.

I guess I know that. I just don't like the idea that for the rest of his life he needs to notify "big brother" if moves across town to a better place or something. Since they have his SS#, it ain't like they can't locate him. And I believe there are sanctions if he forgets to notify.

Oh. Ok. You think that these people out in the field, dealing with insurgents and looking out for their fellow troops, diplomatically building relations with a suspicious population, and doing all of the million and one things they do every day - you think they don't think independently?

American men are still required to register for the Selective Service. My hubby had to do it in 1991.

Registration was suspended early in 1975 and the Selective Service System entered into a "deep standby" posture. Beginning in late 1979, a series of "revitalization" efforts were begun in an effort to upgrade the System's capability for rapid mobilization in an emergency, and in the summer of 1980 the registration requirement was resumed. Presently, young men must register within 30 days of their 18th birthday. - History.com

It appears that Barack Hussein Obama’s father was not a legal resident of Hawaii

There were/are restrictions for college grants to non-residents then?

If so - How did his 1 year Hawaii resident(?) get records entered or changed stating her (alleged) marriage to her (alleged) husband (bigomist? - already married in Kenya then!) had legal residence?

Are these the rules and laws we can now ignore and flaunt?

As far as we know Barack Hussein Obama has not used cocaine in the last week - or is that why Skinny Obama keeps his hair cut so short?

-

Let’s see an original Selective Service registration card in Obama’s actual legal name that is dated within 90 days of his 18th birthday....

Proclamation 4771--Registration Under the Military Selective Service Act

Source: The provisions of Proclamation 4771 of July 2, 1980, appear at 45 FR 45247, 3 CFR, 1980 Comp., p. 82, unless otherwise noted.

Section 3 of the Military Selective Service Act, as amended (50 U.S.C. App. 453), provides that male citizens of the United States and other male persons residing in the United States who are between the ages of 18 and 26, except those exempted by Sections 3 and 6(a) of the Military Selective Service Act, must present themselves for registration at such time or times and place or places, and in such manner as determined by the President. Section 6(k) provides that such exceptions shall not continue after the cause for the exemption ceases to exist.

The Congress of the United States has made available the funds (H.J. Res. 521, approved by me on June 27, 1980), which are needed to initiate this registration, beginning with those born on or after January 1, 1960.

NOW, THEREFORE, I, JIMMY CARTER, President of the United States of America, by the authority vested in me by the Military Selective Service Act, as amended (50 U.S.C. App. 451 et seq.), do hereby proclaim as follows:

1-1. Persons to be Registered and Days of Registration.

1-101. Male citizens of the United States and other males residing in the United States, unless exempted by the Military Selective Service Act, as amended, who were born on or after January 1, 1960, and who have attained their eighteenth birthday, shall present themselves for registration in the manner and at the time and places as hereinafter provided.

1-102. Persons born in calendar year 1960 shall present themselves for registration on any of the six days beginning Monday, July 21, 1980.

1-103. Persons born in calendar year 1961 shall present themselves for registration on any of the six days beginning Monday, July 28, 1980.

Barack Obama was born in Hawaii on August 4th, 1961 and was required to register with the selective service. The world wonders, did Obama register?

“.......
“A man must be registered to be eligible for jobs in the Executive Branch of the Federal government.”

If Obama didn't register, maybe he's not eligible to be president
..................”

Now that's an interesting constitutional question!
Would that be interpreted as only applying civil service jobs? I bet it would!
Can the “people” can constitutionally elect a candidate who can not legally get a job in the federal civil service.

I would guess he’d claim to fall within the period when Registration was suspended early in 1975.
