THIS ISN'T THE ROAD TO SERFDOM, THIS IS SERFDOM.

National service mandated by the state is what Europe had for centuries. It was called serfdom. For example, in France, citizens were required to perform public service building and repairing roads and other public projects for hundreds and thousands of hours a year. Serfdom wasn't eliminated in France until the French revolution, one of the "liberty" parts of that revolution. It was largely the American revolution which inspired this escape from serfdom. Indeed, the American revolution was all about escaping from the European model of servitude, with the American's insisting that even very moderate taxation without representation was a form of oppressive servitude. Incredibly, Barack Obama somehow believes that advocacy of a return to European style serfdom is a good way to celebrate the American Declaration of Independence from the oppression of English tyranny.

I especially liked this part of Obama's speech:

when I'm President, I will set a goal for all American middle and high school students to perform 50 hours of service a year, and for all college students to perform 100 hours of service a year. This means that by the time you graduate college, you'll have done 17 weeks of service. We'll reach this goal in several ways. At the middle and high school level, we'll make federal assistance conditional on school districts developing service programs, and give schools resources to offer new service opportunities.

Your children will be made serfs. But not well. The children of the rich and privileged like those of Barack and Michelle Obama who attend elite private schools will be exempt from the system of servitude Obama and the Lear Jet Left will construct for your children.

People will readily submit to slavery in order to collect a scholarship.

Yep, mine are having to do that crap right now here in Florida, and I despise it. 17 weeks today, 170 weeks tomorrow.

Notice also that he wants to expand the Federal involvement with “faith-based” service activities.

But BHO wants to force the faith based organizations to hire people inimical to the organizations' beliefs. That's like Rev. Wright's church being forced to hire Ayrian Nation parolees.

Celebrate the 4-th of July, till you can!

The 4th of July is a date. Independence Day is National celebration of our independence.

Other than that you have got it right about what this guy is planning.

Lear Jet Leftists, Limousine Liberals....they are so smart!!!

Socialism, Communism have failed everywhere it has ever been tried....in their minds the only reason it failed was because somebody as smart as they are wasn’t in charge. Trotsky, Lenin, Stalin....all dumb asses.

If somebody as smart as them were around, Socialism would have worked.

The local school district already has a community service requirement. 60 hours or no diploma.

Practically every misdemeanor conviction carries a "community service" requirement.

In this town, watering your lawn at the wrong time, mowing your lawn too long or short or not mowing your lawn at all, having your bushes encroach on the sidewalk or having your tree hang less than 7' over the sidewalk, not feeding and watering your pet in the proper size and consistency bowl, and a thousand other things are misdemeanors.

Very nice video. Marvin Gaye was a favorite.

Let's not forget another black (and blind) man who didn't let his "victimhood" get in the way of his success and legacy in America.

Independence Day is National celebration of our independence.

I stopped celebrating Independence Day in 1996.

That was the year I realized that the vast majority of my fellow citizens not only did not understand the concept of liberty, but they also did not want it.

Private schools have been foisting this on kids for 20 years. I was forced to do it in the late 80’s. 50 hours as a junior. 100 hours as a senior. If you didn’t comply you didn’t get a diploma.

meh. It’s all communist crap meant to teach you that you are lucky to have what you have and you need to be taxed via your time to appease those who have power over you.

Those of us who weren’t well-off and had to work to pay for our cars were really screwed. How could you work, play sports, study, go to school, chase girls, AND do community service?

“Conspiracy against the taxpayer” is not exactly full of surprises to me, but gosh I do not have time to finish it all this night.

I suppose that the other links are equally informative.

I’ll be sharing these linked articles with some friends.

Thanks for posting.

That's coming, I'm sure. But the big mistake was getting the govt. involved with faith-based activities in the first place, and for that we can thank dopey G.W. Bush. If that guy had half a brain, he would have learned long ago that govt. aid always leads to govt. control. In fact, I remember 50 years or so ago, wise people raised that warning about the first govt. aid programs; the libs laughed off their objections.

The church has been one of the last bastions of independent non-governmental values and activities. The Left set out to destroy and subvert religion years ago, and under the Satanically-slick and deceptive Hussein, they are about to complete their conquest. Thanks a lot, Bush.

I am not happy about John McCain being the nominee, but the alternative is far worse in my personal opinion.

I am 56 years old and I am through "settling".

I'm writing in somebody, even if it is only myself.
