They can be, yes.
BUT- you don’t defeat monsters with ballerinas. Islam is a brutal enemy- if it takes an equally brutal response to destroy it, so be it.

Being ‘understanding’ and tolerant has gotten us to where we are with the death-cult barbarians of Islam.

Because it's convenient to name animistic tribals as “Hindus”.

Here's an inverted situation, in India's north-east. Same turf-war. Only interchanged. Tribals again:

Because Dalits are converting to Christianity in droves, and that makes upper caste Hindus feel as if their social status is threatened. How dare those at the lowest rung seek equality!

Actually Hindus are a very peaceful people. A recent report on the problems with the Indian police response in Mumbai noted that police officers are not usually armed with handguns, they carry bamboo sticks. Doesn’t mean there isn’t crime in India but it isn’t dealt with force of arms. The Indian cops were way out of their league dealing with the terrorists.

If it comes to a religious war, I think I’d much rather be fighting along side Hindus and those of the Jewish faith, than against any one of them.

Christians, Hindu, Buddhist, Wiccan, Jewish and others seem to have little problem getting along with each other. Islam is the only one that just can’t get along with anyone, including members of their own faith.

National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT)

The National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) was formed in December 1989 for the purpose of seceding from India in order to create an independent Christian fundamentalist state of Tripura. The group was banned under the Unlawful Activies Prevention Act of 1967.

The headquarters of NLFT is located in the Khagrachari district of Bangladesh, about 40-45 km southeast of Simanapur.

In Tripura a systematic surrender of arms by a faction of NLFT insurgents and NLFT fringe groups is due to the increased security pressure and to infighting within NLFT insurgent ranks. Since 2000 a few hundred militants have surrendered in small groups to the security forces, handing in their weapons. The NLFT leadership engaged in peace talks with Mizoram Chief Zoramthanga in April 2001, however the NLFT has not promised acceptance of any future peace process.

The NLFT has set up a number of camps in Bangladesh's Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT), in the Sylhet, Maulavi Bazar, Habiganj and Comilla regions. NLFT also has ties with Pakistan’s external intelligence agency, the Inter Services Intelligence Agency (ISI).

Come to New York City. I can introduce you to several Catholic priests from India who can clue you in. I think at least one can give an eyewitness testimony. I'm sure all can provide second-person testimony.

Hindus rely on Sikhs (from the Pujab) for defense. Sikhs don't have problems with using force, violence, chopping off limbs and head....stuff like that. They're not especially fond of Muslims either.

This doesn't sound right to me... Isn't India one of the most populated countries in the world? And isn't the largest religion Hinduism?
