Illinois Governor Blagojevich may be a crook, but you got to hand it to the guy, he pulled a brilliant move today, especially if he wanted to tweak the nose of his critics.
His choice, Roland Burris, is a lifelong public servant, former Attorney General, impeccable honesty and...oh yes, he is an African American. He has now shifted the debate to "will the senate deny a seat to potentially the ONLY African American in the senate?" He has now given his choice a chance because it is a RACE ISSUE. Its Brilliant.
But that's not even the best part. Harry Reid has said that he won't even allow a discussion about seating Burris. That way he keeps Burris out of the senate with out forcing his democratic party buddies to go on record preventing the ONLY African American from entering the senate. Now here is the part that Reid doesn't know. There is precedent, the senate can keep Burris out, BUT THEY MUST VOTE ON THE ISSUE:

So many long-standing political rules have been broken. I rather suspect that if the senate leader wishes to avoid a vote, then he will. Just because. And no one will have standing to say otherwise. Take it to the Supreme Court if you want — they won’t lift a finger. Reid will do what he wants and get away with it.

I was hoping he would do this so badly, and a black guy too, and governor pulled the race card on democrats in speech. This is fantastic, what is the messiah’s position? Get the cameras to his vacation spot.

Reid sets the agenda. He never puts a vote on the agenda and simply ignores the pick. The democrats are BIG on not allowing up or down votes, remember?

Remember the STATE of Illinois ? Not the state of Chicago . . . South Chicago does not a State make. . .besides if Burris was any good he would be in Obama’s Clintonistas cabinet.

Illinois has the power to fill its vacant Senate seat, not Harry Reid. Besides, if wishes to toss a Senator out it has to be by a 2/3 majority vote.

That's the point! Blago has essentially forced the Dems statewide and in DC to hang themselves with their own PC rope.
"South Chicago does not a state make..." means nothing to me. All though there are obviously some good people in Ill., the fact remains that the power to elect a Senator like Obama comes mostly from the corrupt politics of Chicago. Let them choke on the sword of their own PC liberalism.
And I believe it has to for cause (something like treason or other offense) not just because he was appointed!
Unfortunately, laws mean nothing to Democrats unless they serve their purpose. All others are simply ignored and the burden of enforcing the law is shifted to the opposition. Reid will ignore the law on this issue. I guess Burris could show up and try to take a seat but he won’t have an office, he won’t have the creds necessary to even enter the chamber, etc. etc.
The left has effected a 40-year coup and their capstone achievement of installing a selected, illegitimate president will occur on January 20. After that, get ready to see Democrats ignoring laws and rules on a massive scale.
