“Today, Obama is squawking at the big companies that took the first bailout for giving out big bonuses.”

At least they weren’t life time pensions like our Congress and Senators get.

A couple of major incidents pop to mind, one being around 04 when he met with Prime Minister Koizumi and had real Kobe and again in 06 or 07 when Kobe bulls where brought into the US. There was another case where he had it during a meeting with Prime Minister Blair.

and for my money, nothing beats that good grass fed beef we get from Fallon and Central Nevada. Of course I’ve never had a c-note to toss on Wagyu...

I used to travel to Argentina in the late 90s when the company I worked for was building an eeeevil chemical plant there. That pampas-fed beef there was sublime. You didn't need a steak knife to cut it. And the cost was very reasonable. I could go for a filet of that stuff right now.

Have you ever tried steak at a Brazilian Churrascaria? Very similar to how they cook it in Argentina... Amazing, and overwhelming.

OK, Xenalyte, can you help me with my memory glitch - what's the name of that Brazilian churruascaria on Westheimer just west of Hillcroft?

Anyway, I used to go there quite a bit when I was working for Dow...and I loved it! Cute guys dressed as gauchos running around with platters of various sizzling delicious animal parts...I used to have a meat hangover the next day from eating at that place.

I've been away from home too long (sob!). Is that place even still there?

Are you referring to Fogo De Chao? It is on Westheimer just a block from Hillcroft.

I looked around, and didn't see a whole lot of "controversy" that would have summoned a spirited defense of Bush the rancherdude's proclivities for Good Beef.

I'm beginning to think that some of us ancient Freepers may have to start a school on political instincts for the Free Republic freshmen, sophomores and juniors.

You see, Bush is not, and never claimed to be, a political populist. He's not out there scolding the rich and wanting to tax the rich every second of every day. So, whining about Bush eating expensive Kobe beef does The Big Thud.

On the other hand, Barack Obama, community organizer guy, Man of the People, IS a political populist, all day long, every day.

"Rich people are scum. They should be taxed beyond the grave, etc., etc., yada yada yada." This is Barack Obama, Living Embodiment of Noble Liberal Asceticism, suffering for the down-trodden masses.

So, politically speaking, Barack Obama cannot eat Wagyu Beef, at $100 bucks a pop, period.

And, if you catch him eating Wagyu Beef, you get to pillory Him for it. All day long, every day - like David Letterman gets to run a clip of Bush running into a locked door every other week.

This is political instinct. If you don't understand it, then you're probably a Republican. **grin**

"Politics ain't beanbag: 'tis a man's game, and women, children 'n' pro-hy-bitionists had best stay out of it." - Finley Peter Dunne

That's the one! And they also have that deceptively innocent-tasting lime drink...

So you’re a Houstonian and you’ve never met Xenalyte and me and assorted other somewhat looney FReepers at Nick’s on Briar Forest and Wilcrest? We go there every time I’m home. :)

If you’re ever around when we are, maybe we’ll all have to splurge and help the economy and meet up at Fogo de Chao one of these days.

He possibly pays for his own meals or a set budget (I doubt he pays the salary of the chief and his assistants), but I bet this “cocktail” party falls outside of what he is required to pay. It is probably classed as a state function, therefore; they need to knock off the expensive luxuries while so many are struggling. This is insensitive and elitist.

Does this beef come from Japan? If so, it isn’t helping our farmers.

...food, beverages and dry cleaning all come out of the President's pocket.

This, however, was a "company picnic," and no doubt business expenditures come out of the taxpayer pocket, not that of the Obamas.

We did indeed grill it, over charcoal, and it was out-bleeping-standing.

MN, you simply MUST. It’s your chance to tweak my nose about Ron Paul in person! Seriesly, Nick’s is a great bar and our favorite hang-out when Allegra’s in town.
