The Peasants Are Hungry? Uhhhhh, Let Them Eat Wagyu!
January 30, 2009 | aas

Posted on 01/30/2009 7:23:48 AM PST by an amused spectator

There's a report out that The Dear Leader (Hussein Obama) REALLY, REALLY enjoys his new status as Emperor Of The World.

Most of us thought that dietary items like arugula were a bit on the pricy (and eccentric) side. Now, however, The Dear Leader has added a new item to our national food lexicon:

Wagyu Beef

For you Saxon dog serfs out there, we're talking about a type of steak that runs over $100 a pound. In some instances, Wagyu beef can run over $100 a 6-8 ounce serving.

You won't see this at your local McDonald's when they unchain you from the galley oars for a few minutes at lunchtime today.

Here are some links to articles on what's for The Dear Leader's dinner!:

Obama celebrates spending binge with cocktails and wagyu steak (over $100 a pound elitist chow) Michelle Malkin slices & dices Obama's Wagyu perks

Drinks Are On the (White) House ABCNews' Jake Tapper gets himself disinvited from White House press pressers, forever.

Wagyu beef: It's what Barack Obama, Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are buying with our tax dollars. Yummmm!

;-)

a slab of what Our Dear Leader loves!. Look at the King's Beef, peasant - but don't even THINK about getting any for yourself.

We've got some salmonella-contaminated peanut butter we're passing out at the back door of the White House for our good Saxon serfs.

We need to keep your strength up so's you can work hard to pay off that $800 billion we're going to blow...

Kobe/Wagyu is without question THE best beef in the world. It is worth every penny you’ll spend on it.

I beg to differ. I got some of the best wagyu from my wife’s boss (Panasonic chief of operations) when she worked there and the stuff tasted like soft pork.

You can’t really grill it, because it’s so delicate and so filled with fat. You can pan fry it or fry it on a teppan, but then it’s not really a steak.

But that’s just me...

Waygu beef is awesome. If you can't afford it, that's your fault for not working harder. Should I feel bad because I could go to a restaurant that served it and you have to eat at Burger King? Why don't you just quit your job and go on food stamps and then complain that you can't buy Waygu beef with WIC. What have you got against wealth?

Today, Obama is squawking at the big companies that took the first bailout for giving out big bonuses. I’m assuming that he was the big shot Democrat Senator from Illinois at that time and voted FOR the bailout. IF he is SO smart, then why didn’t HE stand up at the time, take some genuine LEADERSHIP and demand that some limitations and controls be placed on the use of OUR money by these corporations and banks that were standing in line and accepting OUR money? - He sounds like the typical Monday morning quarterback in all this. It’s easy to pontificate after the fact.

Just a quick correction, buying imported Japanese runs about this price, American Wagyu generally is between $25-$40/pound.

“It is worth every penny you’ll spend on it.”

Oh my, it’s such a rare privilege to have my money spent on the Emperor’s delicate palate. “You’ll spend” is the operative phrase here. If I want a good, decently priced steak, I’ll take Laura’s Lean Organic Steaks on sale, beat them tender, cook them slowly in Bragg’s EVOO in cast iron, and they’re good prime beef and affordable. (I have to go cheaper to be able to feed our new Emperor and his Empress and their two little Princesses as they have been accustomed and so they don’t have to bother to chew; by all means.) How charming!

Some amusing coments on the Jake Tapper article. Here’s one from a lib, who is defending Obama from the charge of playing Marie Antoinette:

It was a COCKTAIL PARTY. Who would eat a pound of meat? They were appetizer portions. Get a life.

Also, who said $100/lb? Cooking.com sells that type steak for $65 for a 14oz portion. And, I’m guessing it’s cheaper at the local grocer or butcher.

Next time he invites the Republicans, maybe he can serve little weiners in ketchup on a toothpick.

Pretty funny. This liberal says that it’s not really $100 a pound, but only, let’s get my calculator out here, $74 a pound. So stuff it, you peons! Get back to your little weiners on sticks and leave us elite snobs to appreciate the good things in life!

You hit the nail on the head, and I have heard something like this before that the President pays for his own food and staff so I did some checking:

http://extratv.warnerbros.com/2009/01/does_the_president_pay_for_his.php?page=2
Does the President Pay for His Groceries?
Is it true the Obamas have to pay for their own groceries during their time in the White House? It's true! "Extra" checked out this rumor and discovered food, beverages and dry cleaning all come out of the President's pocket. Just don't expect catch the President or First Lady in the produce aisle -- the First Family has a staff member to do all the shopping.

I remember the dems tried to bring this up when President Bush was in office too..

What, fanning the flames of populist class envy?

I don't care what the President eats - whoever holds the office should entertain at a high level and serve top quality food. The cost for such things is infinitesimal compared to the trillions under discussion for "bailouts". Just because we don't like the current office holder doesn't change that principle. This article is silly.

As long as Obama paid for the “extravagance” out of his own pocket, who cares it's his money. Public funds there is a problem, Obama could of performed this seduction with coffee, a bottle of cheap whiskey and whipped cream.

It maybe a crass exploitation of the current economic situation but I am sure the people that raised the beef as well as the chicken and those that provided the booze appreciated the business (If Obama paid out of pocket, public funds used to buy the food then break out the pitchforks).

“Kobe/Wagyu is without question THE best beef in the world.”

I think not. We have a local butcher, Tony’s, here in Denver that sells prime plus beef that is so good it is hard to screw it up on the grill, in the pan, or the oven. I have had Kobe beef many times and it is too soft of a meat and nearly flavorless for my taste. The Colorado raised beef here is fantastic.

I agree it's mostly a petty concern and the Dollar amounts are meaningless, in the grand scheme of things. Given the types of visitors it gets, the White House has to serve first-class food. Pigs in a blanket and bean dip just aren't going to cut it when the Queen of England is the guest.

who cares it's his money

This does raise some curious issues. How did a guy who never did any real work in his life become a multimillionaire?

Sure, it's his money. Including huge donations from the likes of Fannie Mae and Goldman Sachs, and Obama only knows how much money from foreign paymasters.

Bush paid for his food the honest way, I would imagine. But clinton and Obama will be selling the country to pay for their elite parties.

That's one reason why the press was so anxious to get Obama elected. They wanted to get back to the old Party Days at the White House. So it'll be interesting to see how they respond when Obama doesn't invite them all the time, the way clinton did.

No, not fried. More like sauteed slowly on low heat in a little Bragg’s EVOO and at least as tender as Obama’s silly pantywaist Wagyu and clean, grass fed, organic beef, then sometimes grilled outside which can dry it out and ruin a perfectly good cut of meat. (I don’t salt it until the very last as salt can leach out the juices that make it tender if put on too soon in the cooking process.)

I think the most interesting comment in one of the debates came when one of the moderators asked Obama about his $4 million dollar home. Obama said he didn't become a millionaire until he became a senator... Now.. how does one become a millionaire that quickly with a job that pays $165k per year? If the media wasn't so lazy, that could have really been an interesting comment to follow up on.
