By JOHN P. CONNOLLY, The Bulletin Monday, April 13, 2009 The University of Notre Dame, which has been criticized in recent weeks for inviting President Barack Obama to this years commencement, announced a series of events during Easter week to promote inclusivity of homosexuality.
StaND Against Hate Week, announced on Holy Thursday, includes a showing of the film Prayers for Bobby, which reportedly blames a mothers Christian beliefs for her gay sons suicide. The event will take place from tomorrow through Friday, which is during the Christian celebration of Easter week.
The week is co-sponsored by Notre Dames Gender Relations Center, student government and University Counseling Center.
Christianity is under attack from within our own Catholic universities, said Patrick J. Reilly, President of The Cardinal Newman Society, an organization that works to preserve the identity of Catholic colleges. The bad news continues, perhaps appropriately on the day when we recall Christs terrible agony in the Garden of Gethsemane. We need Catholics worldwide to draw the line, here and now, by joining more than 255,000 witnesses for the Faith at NotreDameScandal.com.
The week includes a screening of the film Prayers for Bobby, which portrays Mary Griffith, a faithful Christian mother who seeks spiritual healing for her homosexual son, as the cause of her sons suicide. According to a review at ReligionDispatches.org, the film biography ignores the real-life Bobbys drug use and stint as a gay prostitute. The real Mary Griffith has renounced her faith and champions homosexual rights, including same-sex marriage.
The announced agenda for the week indicates no effort to teach students about Catholic teaching on homosexual activity as gravely sinful.
April 17 is the one-year anniversary of Pope Benedict XVIs address to Catholic educators in Washington, D.C., during which he called Catholic colleges and universities to a stronger Catholic identity.

I believe the Pope forbade Pelosi to take communion until she got right (which if I know Nancy, will be when pigs fly).
The Catholic Church needs to sever all and any affiliations with this pit of paganism so blasphemously called Notre Dame!
[snicker]
Ouch!
I’m afraid the only “Dame” this place seems to be fit to make “Notre” is the harlot of Babylon. Obama was bad enough. This isn’t some high minded “intellectual exploration” this is whoring.
Where do they hide the Easter Eggs?
Are they all colored Brown?
Making such comments makes you better than we Catholics how??
* rubs forehead * oy
WHAT??!!??? Does the Vatican have any control over Notre Dame at all? I’m not Catholic, so I don’t know.
or Nota (real) Dame
Which is actually very easy to do. My priest back home said "if you have done X, you need to go to confession before receiving the eucharist." Half the congregation left.
I think we’ve lost our culture.
Purr, as it’s been explained to me, the Roman Catholic church has given permission to Notre Dame to call itself “Catholic.” If I were a trademark owner and “Catholic” was the brand, I’d say Notre Dame is ruining the brand reputation and terminate the license. According to Mrs. Don-O on FR, their local bishop could do that.
They have no standards. None. This is appalling for that university. The alumni should be up in arms about this.
I sure hope some major news outlets pick up on this. This is a disgrace.
Hypocrisy is not limited to Notre Dame. Rick Warren just apologized for supporting Yes on *.... Another WUS
Someone please send this out to a major media mail list. Lets put this into high profile mode. Sunlight is the best anteseptic.
Warren was at best bobbing near the surface. He’s gone under now if he thinks it was wrong to vote yes on Prop 8.
You got a problem, clean it up. While there are wonderful priests in the Church there is a tolerance for homosexual priests that naturally has led to a distaste for the Church. No one is perfect but the preisthood does not seem to be in any way policing itself. Maybe it’s the natural outcome of the celibacy requirement. And you assume I am not Catholic, plenty of Catholics are concerned with this issue.
Everyday - slipslidin’ away.
