You know...that's a pretty good point. If a President...a male President...gets divorced during his term who is it that's forced to leave the house. In ordinary divorces the woman gets to stay in the house 99% of the time.

I can’t stand wanda sykes voice.....Kind of funny how she is joking about the PRESS being RACIST! But if good ol’ RUSH LIMBAUGH said he was waiting for the “Real” Michelle Obama......

Still Michelle Obama is “Trailer Trash”...going to serve meals to homeless that have cell phones wearing shoes that cost more than some hard working folks make in a week.

No,and she doesn't have any problem with Michelle wearing a $600 pair of sneakers to a soup kitchen either.

Except the President neither owns nor has a lease on the White House. He's just allowed to live in it as a perk of his job. It would be like if your company supplied you with an apartment close to your workplace as part of your job.

So if John Smith,a Microsoft VP,is given a house as part of his compensation package and, during this time, his wife Mary files for divorce (and has, say, two young kids),the divorce court orders Mary and the kids to leave? I sincerely doubt it.

Actually,I shouldn’t have said “given” a house. It should have been ‘allowed to live in” a house.

I distinctly remember Wanda Sykes making PRO-GWB jokes a few years ago, mocking the Democrats for opposing the tax cuts, for instance.

If the house belongs to MS, and John was just allowed to live in it as an MS perk, and MS can withdraw the right at any time, then I think MS can say to Mrs Smith "If the house is no longer a facility for Mr Smith, then we're taking it back".

In other words, the court can force John to move out, but it cannot force MS to continue to provide the perk. The court could, however, demand that John obtain a comparable residence for Mrs Smith and the kids.

Although I'm not a lawyer it seems to me that,in some states at least, divorce courts have enormous power.I'd be willing to bet that some states would successfully overrule such an act by Microsoft. If I'm wrong my guess is that some lawyer will chime in and correct me.

Unless you live in Santa Clara County in California where the person who can still pay the mortgage gets the house ( oh yeah the other spuse gets bought out). Here women more often than not do NOT get the house

Really? Isn't Santa Clara Country somewhere up around San Francisco? One would think that that's *real* liberal country...the kind of place where a woman, with or without justification, would be able to pick a husband clean in divorce court.

Yeah we are up north. Since around 1992 Santa Clara County has taken the approach that the house will either be sold ( regardless of state law requiring maintenance of original domicile if there are minor children) or whoever can afford the mortgage gets the house. PLUS California is a community property state there really isn’t much”picking clean” that goes on in divorce court (unless you count the lawyers fees)
