Why Palin Resigned
Weekly Standard ^ | 07/10/2009 | Mathew Conntinetti

early July, while most Americans were preparing for a long weekend of celebratory parades, charred meats, and noisy fireworks, Sarah Palin made some plans of her own. The Alaska governor had been the object of endless media attention and assorted calumnies since she became John McCain's vice presidential nominee last August. Now she wanted to try something new. So, on July 3, in a speech delivered from her home on Lake Lucille in Wasilla, Palin told her constituents that not only would she not seek a second term, but she would also be transferring authority to Lieutenant Governor Sean Parnell on July 26, abdicating her office with about 18 months left to go. The announcement, as one might expect, received global press coverage, dominated the weekend headlines, and gave stories about the late Michael Jackson a run for their money. Meantime, the political world went into sustained convulsions.

Thanks for the ping. The RATs and a lot of PUBs hate her because they are afraid of her.

The libs/media/rinos/commies go postal over Reagan, Clarence Thomas and Gov Palin. Seems to me that she is in good company.

YOUR comment is the reason we are losing this country! You want PURITY......there is NO such thing, bud. Perry is FAR better than Hutchinson, and that comment demoralizes the party that will NOT TAKE ALL of YTOUR MONEY like the DEMOCRATS WILL DO! Thanks for helping us lose.

It starts with the 2010 elections, find a conservative to support in your area and help get them elected.

If it is a choice between KBH and Gov. Goodhair, I will reluctantly take the Gov. Supporting him was a good strategic move.

The operative word in your sentence is "IF". The assumption is that there will be NO other choice but Gov. Good Hair or KBH. What if someone else jumps in the race? Someone like a REAL conservative??

Kinda changes the dynamics a little, doesn't it?

Only because you aren't thinking straight. You admit there are no other choices.

There are no other choices . . . TODAY!!! Tomorrow is another day and the race doesn't really get underway until next year. There's still plenty of time for a real conservative to enter the race. Should that happen, Sarah could regret her endorsement.

You’re a hoot, Ann! If you follow the thread, you will note that I initially stated that IF my only choice were Gov. Good Hair or KBH, I would reluctantly vote for Gov. Good Hair.

But there’s a long time before the 2010 election and a lot could happen. A real conservative could decide to challenge BOTH KBH and Gov. Good Hair. Until we get to that point, I’d like to keep my options open.

With respect to wanting PURITY, you bet I do. Electing RINOs, partial or otherwise, is why we are in the position we are. Politicians serve no one but themselves, regardless of party affiliation. Look how easily Arlen Specter jumped across the aisle. When Dick Armey jumped across the aisle to join the Republicans, he, at least, had the honor to demand a special election. His supporters elected a Democrat until he changed sides. He wanted to make sure that they wanted him to represent them as a Republican. The rest is history.

Electing people with “Rs” after their name regardless of their history and voting record, is what has wrecked the Republican party. We don’t look for people with true conservative values to represent us at the state or federal level, we immediately go for anyone with an “R”. It hasn’t served us well at all. Reagan was a conservative. Gov. Good Hair and KBH have “R”s after their name, but neither will ever rise to the level of a Reagan because they lack true conservative values and convictions. That’s the difference and that’s what we should be demanding of the people we send to Washington OR Austin to represent us. The history of this country is predicated on the personal liberties and entrepreneurial spirit that our Constitution brought us. These are, in turn, largely predicated on conservative values that have limited the size and scope of government and limited the taxes we pay; allowing us to spend the money WE earn the way WE see fit.

Until recently, that is. Not demanding purity Ann, brought us to where we are today. Voting for “R”s, brought us to where we are today. You are right about one thing, there may not BE purity . . . . life is full of compromises. But, if we never reach for the stars, we’ll NEVER get to the moon.
