Thanks to the black and white cops who were not afraid to defend Sgt. James Crowley against accusations of "racist", a catalyst may have taken place in the use of the word.

I wouldn’t say it’s been brought to the forefront.
But the several cascading incidents have all made it clear that Zer0, Gates, Sharpton, Holder, and their ilk are shameless and unmitigated racists.
It’s time that blacks were told flat out that we all know about their racist BS.
Crying black cannot be racist just aint cutting it anymore. Of course they can be racist and ARE racist.
“And because of this, Obama may be left hanging by his own petard. “
Sorry to seem petty, but since you mixed a metaphor used often by the late great William F. Buckley, Jr., with another one in more common use, I thought I’d chime in.
A petard is a hand thrown bomb, the predecessor to the hand grenade. One is hoist by one’s own petard when said bomb explodes before one throws it. Hanging by one’s own petard would be a neat trick.
they are using it as an anti-concept that functions as a kind of argument from intimidation that replaces a discussion of the merits of a given idea by the menacing accusation that such an idea would polarize the country, and which is supposed to make their opponents retreat, protesting that they are sorry they used it and didn't mean it.
I think the Gates thing just may be a turning point in American history.
It’s the first case I can think of where the players of the race card were forced to beat a hasty retreat, pretending they really didn’t mean to play that particular card.
I suspect five years ago things would have turned out differently and the good sergeant would have been fired.
It’s essentially impossible to play the race card with a black man in the White House.
It will take a long time to get it through the thick skulls of the race card players, but their hustle is essentially over.
People often use phrases without knowing what they mean. A "petard" was an explosive charge, placed by hand, and detonated with a timed fuze. Sometimes the fuze was too quick, and the person placing the charge would be "hoist by his own petard" (most likely killed).
I wish.
A racist got a free beer and a ride to The White House by playing his race card.
Not bad for 30 minutes of work.
Be careful what you wish for, 0, you just may get it.
In this case, we have a “teaching moment” where whites now understand that we have elected a black nationalist, rather than a racial healer - as was expected.
I went to lunch with a black lady once who I knew very well on a very jovial basis. Bottom line, when she didn’t get what she wanted or wanted something more than anyone else and started the race thing, I called her on it and she looked sternly at me and busted out into a laugh and then agreed. She just played what she had to get ahead.
“hoist by his own petard”
Heard that all my literate life, but the internet is a wonderful source of knowledge. I thought a petard was something on a shaft, like a lance, halberd, or espontoon.
Didn’t know it was about explosives.
Forgot to add, if someone calls me a racist, I’ll reply “So’s your old man!” and take it from there.
Who was who wrote that the true breakdown in civility occurs when words meant to deliver a solemn moral accusation are simply dismissed out of hand.
15 years ago I was traveling overseas and was having pleasant chit-chat with a Chinese-American woman from California. And I mean she was 100 percent American, almost Valley Grrrlll.
Suddenly she launched into a minor tirade about “America racist this” and “America racist that,” and after a minute or two of this I was just about to exit this now-annoying conversation when she says (paraphrasing) “It’s really just amazing how badly the blacks treat us Asians in California.”
First time I’d ever heard anyone say that.
But not the last. Many many many times since then.
Fixed.
Thank goodness the era of white guilt ended with Obama's election. The black racist had a good run but now it is over.
See tagline.
“we have a teaching moment where whites now understand that we have elected a black nationalist and racist, rather than a racial healer”
Thanks for fixing it. Obviously I need a few more “teaching moments” to fully understand race relations in this country.
Have been saying it since the late 60s
The real enemy is the White Liberal
He/She is the enabler
Racist and bigot just might be the two most over used words today.
