Why Liberals Run Academia
Chris Scott Blog ^ | 9/12/09 | Chris Scott

I've been thinking a lot recently about the disparate gap in reasoning between the mainstream academic elites and the rest of America. Why is it that liberalism is so often an outgrowth of scholarly people? The most prominent colleges in America---the ivy league schools---are often the most liberal environments, and produce the writers, artists and politicians who are often the most liberal. Why is this so?

Just think this topic is so relevant to what is going on in our country today. I think it all boils down to relativism infecting our society.

Why Liberals Run Academia

Cuz if you can't do it, teach it. Cuz they can't do real work.

I was going to go to law school, then decided I could better serve my country with a doctorate in history. You are correct. The liberal rot being taught in even relatively conservative universities (like Texas Tech) is unbelievable, and far, far worse than it was 20 years ago. We must deliver new conservative blood into academia or we’re all comrades of the left.

During the Viet Nam “war” era, a lot of draft dodgers stayed in school pursuing degrees that helped keep them out of the military.

Many of them learned to despise the country because of their antiwar dispositions.

I have often wondered the same thing. Also the media.

I actually think it may be some type of conspiracy tho I have no idea what. The reason I say that, is the media and academia (along with religion) are perfect vehicles for propaganda, in other words they are exactly what a person would choose in order to bend people’s minds.

It could be as simple as Satan.

I think there is a Fabian-like faction in the United States whose sole purpose for the last 50 years has been to slowly change the way Americans think. This is best accomplished through media control, literature, education, entertainment, etc... I don’t think it is any accident that these nutcase lefties are in academia. They only seem crazy now - give them another 20 years, and there will be even more radical thinkers in their place.

We have become a nation of ‘conformists’ aka ‘followers’. Children are taught that to succeed they must attend institutions of higher learning.

Creative thinking is not taught in colleges or universities...it is suppressed. Average students cannot overcome the intense indoctrination and brainwashing practiced by liberal professors - if they want a passing grade.

Most college graduates are competent at accumulating a ‘set of facts’ and matching that knowledge to exams. It ain’t science...it’s human nature. The path of least resistence.

We have become a nation of followers not innovators.

sad

In case you have not noticed, the Libs have pretty much taken over the Elementry/ High schools systems and the Judicial systems also. In case you have also not noticed, it is much easier to be a Liberal these days as you don not have to worry about things such as a moral code to get in the way of having fun.

More than likely the FreeRepublic server just happened to perform a time sync between posts.

Computer clocks run a tad fast. IOW, the gain time. Time sync usually rolls the clock backward somewhat. How much depends on how often the server performs this time check.

There are several reasons why liberals dominate universities. The first is that what you often end up with is a consentrated group of individuals whose never had to learn the hard lessons of life that helps burn away the childishness of youth. They live in a protected world where postering an intellectually bullying is accepted as a substitute for reasoning. They create a world with rules that cater to the depraved and insolent. We can defeat them by infiltrating their world and highlighting the things they say within their ivory towers for all to ridicule.

a.)there are no consequences to espousing any kind of hyper-theoretical idea. Or if there is they don’t have to live with it

b.) it’s fashionable to be ‘intelligent’ and say leftist things.

I think being a social snob pretty well trumps the first but I am not sure.

Kids love to think of themselves as part of an elite, as better than other people and leftist thought does that for them, so far.

Simple. The radicals started taking over academia in several waves, starting at least as early as the ‘30s. The most recent visible radical disruption was in the ‘60s. They created studies and majors that attracted like-minded socialists, and eventually radicalized and took over other departments. A tipping point was reached.

As usual, conservatives playing by the rules didn’t know what hit them. Too late!

All part of the plan, clearly announced by the likes of Ayers and Dohrn 40 years ago.

The communists (read: liberals) dominate the universities because communists have always understood, and still do, as conservatives unfortunately do not these days, that if they can dominate the life of the mind they can dominate the culture.

So, they have always tried to produce massive numbers of credientaled intellectuals from within their communist ranks; and they have succeeded, and now they control the organs of culture creation in the Western world.

Until conservatives come to understand the ultimate importance in nurturing the life of the mind in the universities, there will be no basis for permanently turning the culture back in a more conservative direction. Historically speaking, the universities are inherently conserving, and even Christian institutions. They have, after all, been with us for a over a millenium, thanks largely to the work of Christians in the Carolingian renaissance (9th century). This new domination by communists has overturned their essential character, and now it is time to take them back. But that means good people have to get Ph.D.’s in fields like philosophy, law, politics, history, English, etc.

As a friend of mine often puts it, while the conservatives are out running their business, trying to make a buck, the people whom they consider to be useless are shaping the minds of their children.

People that LEAVE college go to work and live in the real world. They realize that money isn’t just some arcane concept, but is the reward for the investment of part of your life in some pursuit. They grow up and become conservative.

People that stay at school (either as an eternal student or as faculty) never have to face the ugly world of profit and loss, compromise, and hard decisions; so they stay children (i.e. liberals).

The more “intelligent” you are, the more you think that a handful of elites can make better decisions than the common masses.

However, building a more perfect union isn’t a game of chess where the players win using pure intellect. The idea that the chaotic pursuit of individuals without the control of the philosopher-kings allows for more freedom and prosperity is an alien idea for these people.

This belief is reinforced in academia where, as the professor, you’re in a place where you are the philosopher-king, the head of the masses, and the absolute ruler of ideas and thought.

Academia is where they can get a living without feeling they are working for it like the inferior servant population. They feel they are awarded their stipend based on their inherent value rather than having to do stuff for the money. Of course, they complain that their true value is never recognized and they are not paid sufficient to keep them in the style to which they are entitled by their tremendous Value to society.

I think a lot of the reason so many liberals are in academia is that they have all these utopian ideals from when they were young, and they have never really faced the real world. A kid going from high school straight to college, then to grad school, really hasn’t experienced the real world. When they get a tenure-track position, the chances of them ever experiencing the real world (as opposed to viewing it from the lofty heights of their ivory towers) become all but nil.

I think you are right but I think it goes back way before the 30’s. I have always suspected the French Revolution was an early leftist plot.

I also suspect that the radical republicans of the US in the middle 19th century were very close to Communists. I have read more than once that Karl Marx sent an observer of the War Between the States. He reportedly was very fond of Lincoln.

Radicals serve as the gatekeepers of academia so if you are not politically correct, you don’t do well in school. You don’t get into grad schools; your commie professors won’t recommend you and won’t help you get jobs. As an artist, liberals will give you bad reviews. You will fail journalism school. You won’t get into a Ph.d history program. In education, you will fail your essays and projects. All subjective grading for the non-politically correct ends up very low for some reason. If you get in they will hound you out as a hater as fast and they can sniff you out.

Saint John Vianney, aka “the Cure d’Ars”, said: “Take priests away from churches for 20 years and people will worship beasts”. It’s just that simple. Take Christianity out of America, or anywhere else, and people will worship themselves, their brains, their bodies or beasts. The US government has successfully repressed the public expression of Christianity, and scoffed at religion and God Himself by punishing even the most benign, trivial, public expression of Christianity, hence we are now being ruled by atheistic intellectuals, communists, facists, narcissists, the effeminate, and every other form of humanism there is. America rose to power, not coincidentally, when we were governed by men who found no offense in the public expression of Christianity, and who in fact often publicly reverenced God for our nation’s blessings. That’s all gone now, and so goes the pillar and foundation of our cherished freedom.
