For the last several years Ive been despairing over what to do about my hair. I used to wear it long, but it grew too thin, so I briefly tried wearing it short with a rat tail (remember those?). I quickly decided that this looked ridiculous and clipped it off. Grew it out long again, whacked it off short, back and forth. By the time I hit fifty the top of my head was pretty much a clear landing strip for insects and small birds.
I have several friends who shave their heads and all of them are happy with it. I considered trying it more than once but chickened out each time. Last Saturday night however, I decided to take the plunge. Perhaps Id become obsessive about it. I spent an hour looking at images of some of my favorite action heroes with shaved heads, along with photos of some of my friends who shave theirs (you know who you are). What the hell, I decided. If I dont like it, itll grow back in a few days.

I’m not sure if it was very prevalent on my mom’s side, but my grandmother’s on my dad’s side, oh boy it was there. My grandfather on his side still has a good head of hair, and my dad is bald on top with salt and pepper on the sides.
Last year, I solved my problem with losing hair. Now, I collect my hair from out of the shower drain and put it into a paper bag. I still have all of my hair (almost a dozen of them on my head.)
I “took the plunge” a few months ago. It’s a little more upkeep but works out fine. It’s amazing though how much insulation hair provides. On a cold day, I must wear a hat.
I never could understand the importance that many men put on their hair. If it turns gray or falls out who cares? I have worn my hair the same way since the US Army gave me my first ‘free’ haircut. Of course, at that length it is hard to tell if it is gray or how much there is of it. LOL
I will tell you that nothing looks worse than a half bald old guy with a pony tail or whatever hanging down the back and his bald pate shining, with gray hair it is simply dorky looking. You still see those old hippies who think they are 20 wearing their hair like that. I don’t shave my head but do have it fuzzed off like a crew cut. Some heads don’t look good completely bald and if you leave just the fuzz of a crew cut on it looks better and keeps you from having to comb it also:)
If heredity is a factor, it’s your moms dad that can indicate the possible future of your head hair. It’s my recollection that this can skip a generation. Anyway... life will still be good.
My maternal grandfather AND my dad were both slick bald. Gotta figure I didn’t have much of a chance.
It’s Day 2 (shaved it Saturday night) and I haven’t had any regrets. My head looks a little big, but that’ll resolve itself as long as I keep the weight loss thing going. I was 300+ a year ago. Now just over 260 and slowly shedding the pounds.
Cut your losses and shave it all off now. (And if you’re a metrosexual, you can get a Brazilian to match the top). ;-D
Nope, not much of a chance,.
Congratulations on the weight loss, stay at it, you’ll be so glad that you did.
Metrosexuals must live in a constant state of angst.
[Your post made me think of “American Psycho”, for some reason]...;-D
Hubby builds trike kits for a living and is always covered with fiberglass dust, metal milling spirals and shards, welding soot and just about everything else that comes with motorcycle builder territory.
My mom curls her lip with disgust when she sees all that “crud”.
All I see is my perfect, beautiful hero....:)
Heheh...thx!
The tie-dyed napkin ring is another dead giveaway...
I’m as far from metrosexual as one can get.
Then go out there and get some trim, son !
Thanks for the info. I’ve been using a regular WAHL. I wasn’t even aware that there is one that cuts closer. I’ll have to keep an eye out for it.
