Jerry Butler did the definitive version of “Moon River.”

The reason I think they’re the best combo is the combination of voices is absolutely amazing. Frank is by far my favorite and I like him much more than Louis Armstrong however Armstrong has such a distinct and low voice and that combined with Ella is amazing.

“What would a cool subject to debate, best male/female duos.

Of course, nobody does duets like the country artists of the 60s and 70s. Everyone thinks of George and Tammy because they were married and one of the great love/hate stories of the business. But before Tammy met George, she sang My Elusive Dreams with David Houston. I was just looking at this on YouTube last night. I always thought she sang beter with David than George. In fact, the blend of Tammy’s and David’s voices was one of the best I’ve ever heard. I was really pleased to see that a lot of the comments on YouTube echoed my feelings about that.

Loretta and Conway were the most fun, Porter and Dolly were wonderful, I still like Tammy and David. For another amazing blend of voices - Dottie West and Don Gibson. Rings of Gold. Wow. And Waylon Jennings and Anita Carter. Well, Anita Carter and anyone.....

NO KIDDING!! Is that not one of the most wonderful things ever recorded? You simply cannot say that enough times. I’ve always loved Jerry, and felt like he never got the respect due him. (Oh, and since we’re talking about duets, we forgot about Jerry and Betty Everett “Let It Be Me.”) People like Lou Rawls always overshadowed Jerry, but they were never better. And like with a lot of others, just having survived and kept on working, Jerry is now getting the respect he should have had 20/30 years ago. The best thing that ever happened was when they had him MC some of those Doo Wop Shows - he was on display for all the world to see his elegance and eloquence. And he did not disappoint.
