Stories like this just make me weep for my country.
In September local Connecticut news station WTNH reported:
Weeds, glass, bricks, pieces of pipe and shingle splinters have replaced the knot of aging homes at the site of the nations most notorious eminent domain project.
There are a few signs of life: Feral cats glare at visitors from a miniature jungle of Queen Annes lace, thistle and goldenrod. Gulls swoop between the lots towering trees and the adjacent sewage treatment plant.
But what of the promised building boom that was supposed to come wrapped and ribboned with up to 3,169 new jobs and $1.2 million a year in tax revenues? They are noticeably missing.
New London officials decided they needed Kelos land and the surrounding 90 acres for a multimillion-dollar private development that included residential, hotel conference, research and development space and a new state park that would compliment a new $350 million Pfizer pharmaceutical research facility.
So whats going on with that $350 million Pfizer facility? Again, nothing. Aint happenin, the Washington Examiner reported yesterday:
Pfizer abandons site of infamous Kelo eminent domain taking
So lets recap: The government, backed by the Supreme Court, forces a woman and several of her neighbors get out of the land they rightfully own for the public good and now their grandiose plans arent happening. Oops. Never mind. Talk about adding insult to injury!
So the land is an unattractive, abandoned, weed-filled wasteland. I cant think of a better picture to depict what happens when greedy power-hungry government

I saw this story yesterday.
I wonder how long it will take SCOTUS to backtrack. It will take a case going to the court, but be certain the Kelp outcome will get in that case for real. Or it SHOULD thats for certain.

Liberal fascism?
There is not, nor ever has been, any kind of fascism other than liberal fascism.
The Nazis weren’t called National Socialists for the hell of it. They were socialists. That is what Fascism is. Socialism.
I suspect that demand has softened for their hardening drug.
Honestly, it’s my sincere hope that nothing useful ever gets built on that property by the current owners. I hope very much that owning that property costs them money, the more the better. I would like to see some motivated, Constitutionally-minded folks see that it turns out that way.
Property acquired through theft, even theft dressed up with the trappings of law, should never be allowed to be profitable.
The story reads like the Obama saga.
It's good to repeat that the Nazis were essentially militaristic leftists (i.e., they wouldn't be so very welcome in today's leftist Pantheon, but would be tolerated if they brought their guns).
Thing is, fascism is not quite socialism. In socialism the government directly owns the means of production and takes the heat and/or credit when good or awful results ensue. That's a terrible way to run any kind of country, but it is at least relatively honest. No one is kidding anyone who's in charge.
In fascism, the government stays at one step's remove: dictating to the putative owners of the means of production what they can and cannot do, but leaving the blame and problems to them. This ends up looking like capitalism but isn't. We've had a fascist government in America for decades now.
Fascism is essentially socialism for cowards.
They may or may not owe property tax on it, depending on whether or not the city gave them an exemption as inducement to locate there, but they certainly have to carry some sort of liability insurance (or budget it into their self-insurance allocation) in case anyone wanders into it and gets hurt.
And the city certainly isn't reaping whatever sort of revenue they anticipated from the planned facility.
Kind of like the land confiscated years ago (like 40-50) in downtown New Haven to expand Route 34. The project was abandoned years ago & now, finally, the land is being built on.
The control of the people is managed by taking away the people's independence, making them totally dependent on the government for their daily needs. Control of industry is accomplished through control of the market and through a combination of threats and favors, exactly the way Obama is taking control of the health care industry.
“Fascism is essentially socialism for cowards.”
That line is a keeper! Never seen it put so succinctly!
They’ll evenually wind up selling it or giving it away to someone that’ll build a big home there.
Someone that will use it for a purpose other than what it was taken for.
Kelo got shafted and they will never allow her to take possession of her property again. That would be admitting guilt.
