LOL

Actually, this is probably true.
Water was so polluted in the old country by the 1600's that people drank home made brew.
The Pilgrims brought their own home brewing apparatus with them.
That first spring in Plymouth, their first face to face encounter with an Indian was a warm day in April when they looked to see a tall, handsome Indian striding down the main - and only - street. He raised his hand in greeting and said: "Welcome, Englishmen. Got a beer?"
It was Samoset, a sachem from what is now Maine, who had picked up some English from coastal fishermen - and a liking for their beer.
the Pilgrims were to write home their delight in finding the water in the new land 'sweet' and safe to drink but they didn't give up their beer and 'strong water' altogether.
