I recieved this by e-mail, and have not yet found it's source to corroberate the story.

Living on the border, we are all familiar with criminals coming from Mexican gangs. In this situation three armed felons crossed the US border, and tried to rob an off duty El Paso, Texas Police Officer dressed in civilian clothes while he stood in front of a bank. The plan was for two of them to grab his backpack and toss it to an accomplice on a stolen motorcycle. However, the well prepared Police Officer shot all of them, managing to kill 2 immediately. The 3rd one was shot in both arms and bleed to death before help arrived. Gun used: a 40 cal.

I'm not posting the pictures here, because they are graphic. But they can be found here.

If he had been a civilian he would probably be in jail.

Don’t know. Backgrounds look a little too third world, even for El Paso. Don’t doubt was a self-defense shooting as described. It just probably took place somewhere else.

That said, the power of the .40 cal is evident in the getaway cyclist’s arms (3rd criminal). (Broke both of them -probably cut one or both of the arteries as well.)

Wherever it happened, it’s another happy ending.

Note the business name in the background - Gravia, I think it is. When you Google them you’ll find they have stores in Central America and Mexico, but not the U.S.

Exactly the gun I carry!

Per their website, the company in the background has 4 stores in the Federal District, meaning Mexico City, I think. They make building supplies.

Not in Texas. You may lawfully use deadly force to prevent a felony or to prevent a felon from escaping.

He'd have been no-billed.

You may have just disproved the anecdote.

Three of them? Unarmed? For stealing a backpack? Running away?

The S&W .40 is a nasty cartridge with pretty powerful ballistics that can really mess someone up. I have its bigger more powerful brother the 10-mm Auto which has .41 Magnum like firepower and would do a far worse job than seen on these thugs.
