Starting My 12th Year as a Freeper-Happy New Year to All!
Self ^ | December 30, 2009 | exit82

Posted on 12/30/2009 2:21:53 PM PST by exit82

Today is my 11th anniversary of signing up on FreeRepublic. I lurked since the beginning of October, 1998, learned about the March for Justice, and travelled to DC from NJ to attend it to join the voices of those calling for the impeachment of a President who had broken the law. How thrilling it was to arrive at the Washington Monument on Oct. 31, 1998 to see a sea of flags and 4,000 patriots! Seven weeks later, President Clinton was impeached by the House of Representatives.

Since that time, Freepers have been instrumental in influencing the 2000(Sore/Loserman and "Get out of Cheney's house!) and 2004 elections(exposing Dan Rather's "fake but accurate" Texas ANG memo and helping the SwiftBoat Vets), in shutting down amnesty not once, but twice in 2006, and in pulling the GOP kicking and screaming to the right as an outcome of the disastrous 2008 election of the Usurper-in-Chief.

All that time, FreeRepublic has been my refuge to find common sense and camaderie in the political battles of these 11 years. Having a place where like-minded America-loving patriots can gather has proven invaluable.

The year 2010 will be a watershed in the history of America. The Constitution and the rule of law are at risk, not unlike as in 1998 when I first came to FreeRepublic. We have but ten more full months to influence, peacefully, the course of our country, through the candidates we support and the causes we work for.

I wish you all a Happy New Year, and express my hope that there will be a new birth of freedom for America in 2010. Together, we can make that happen. God bless us, every one.

Started lurking at FR mid-August 1998 which prompted me to attend the March for Justice in Washington. Beautiful fall day October 31, 1998 ... with much of the FR activity on the Mall where the WWII Memorial now stands. As I recall, nearly every state in the Union was represented, I lived in Cincinnati at the time and Ohio had a strong contingent present. Shortly after returning home from the March for Justice I signed up at FR.

Are we old or WHAT?!!

My trip to the MFJ was to celebrate my 50th birthday. I guess that means I'm no spring chicken. I just feel like one! LOL

Thanks for sharing your story, BluH2O.

We came from so many places and backgrounds—all united by the need to a lawless leader brought to account.

Glad to know you were one of the 4,000.

Happy New Year to you!

Good thing, too--otherwise you'd be a winter fowl! :)

I guess I’m class of 2000. Joined during the leadup to the 2000 election.

It’s been a long ride but there are still many miles to go before we rest. Maybe in 2012. Happy New Year exit82.

That was aheady time. Who could have foreseen Al Gore contesting the obvious out to December. Google Armand Hammer and Al Gore Sr. Answers a lot of questions about AlGore,Jr.

Remember 28K modems?

I actually started my online saga with Compuserve and a 300 baud acoustic modem in 1983. Didn't find FR until 2000 though.

Sounds like a Robert Frost poem—many miles to go before we rest.

All I want for 2010 is a new Congress led by conservatives.

Is that the theme for The Man of La Mancha playing in the background? ;)

This whole online thing is still a miracle.

Who would have thought that moving electrons on a screen could impact the world?

I remember having a second phone line dedicated to my 1200 baud modern so I can access the “net”!

Gotcha beat! 300 baud here!

I actually don't remember Ann from 1998. I do remember another blond, Connie Hair - now a columnist for Human Events. I also remember some male speakers, Alan Keyes and Congressman Billybob. Mrs jimfree was dressed in black beret.

Happy Anniversary exit82!

We have stood shoulder-to-shoulder, you and I, on Pennsylvania Avenue more than once, I think, and joined in Dr. Raoul’s chorus of: Bill Clinton! We have you surrounded! (etc.)

Were you at the 9/12 rally this year?

Drop the Cigar! Step Away from the Intern!

And Come Out with Your Pants UP!!!!

Yes, I remember!

I was at the 9/12 rally. Couldn’t find the Freepers though—the crowd was huge! Was at 11/15 also.

Can’t wait for 4/15/10!

Happy New Year to you!

Hi Jimmy Valentine!! How’s your brother??

Hi Mombonn!

Actually I spoke Mandarin to the Chinese tourists. My posters were in Chinese Characters, so both Mandarin and Cantonese speakers coming out of the WH could read them. Those were fun days -— and seem so innocent compared to what we are facing today!!!! We must say a bit of thanks to dear, late, Mr. Confetti Man who was so instrumental in getting the WH protests going.

I came to FR thru Drudge and Watergate, also, and becoming a Freeper changed my life totally! Best addiction I ever had! A day without FR is like a day without -—— well, I don’t know without what, as I never miss a day without FR!

When I chose my Exit148 name, I thought I would be totally incognito, except for those living in NJ. But the first day I was on line, a trucker from the mid-west came right on and said he knew where I lived!! LOL! So much for anonymity!

So Happy New year to all the oldies, and the newbies and the inbetweenbies! Free Republic is the greatest. God bless you JimRob!
