And you know, there are humane ways to deal with the 11-13 million illegal aliens that are in our country right now, but if they're not going to follow the rules, they need to get out. (HOW does she do that without deportation????)

Sarah is merely recognizing that it's impossible to do another "Operation Wetback" in this day and age. All you have to do is crack down on employers and enforce existing immigration laws and illegals will self-deport. I'm confident that Palin will clarify her views as the issue heats up.

Palin: we need to close the borders. They are called illegal aliens for a reason and if they are not going to follow the rules they should not be in our country.

I agree with this.

” The “She’s a quitter” meme. I would expect leftists to repeat this, but when members of FR who are supposed to be conservatives do it, then it’s discouraging. It’s laziness on the part of FReepers who repeat this, because all of the facts and reasons are there why she did what she did.

The “She’s not qualified to be President.” Hogwash. Governor Palin has 16 years of political experience. If she was chosen for VP, then logic dictates that she is ready to run for President in her own right. “

Those are leftist talking points. I and most others have never used them or care..they are silly arguments with no merit. Our concern has been her own words and undying support of John Amnesty Mccain.

Are you saying you want her to say that she will begin mass deportations?
NO POLITICIAN WHO CAN (OR WANTS TO) WIN AN ELECTION WILL SAY THAT. EVER.

Some may actually institute some sort of limited deportation policy once elected, but none will admit that beforehand.

None of the potential nominees (those who could actually win) said it last time -- and none will say it this time.

In my opinion, GWB missed the greatest opportunity he had immediately after 9/11 to secure our borders and begin a deportation policy. If not then, then never.

Well, perhaps, after an even more horrific event than 9/11. God forbid.

And you’re point is? I noticed you didn’t include Palin’s statement about being IN FAVOR of PATH TO CITIZENSHIP (AMNESTY) for illegal aliens?

Bottom line...she can ‘say’ she opposes amnesty all that she wants, but her position is no different than that of Bush or McCain.

Even she can't bring herself to call them illegals.

Really?

No, I’m saying I want her to come out with her policy...she’s never said what she’d do with them except that’s she’s against deportation. Deportation is the law for illegal entry. We don’t have to deport them all, but if we’d start following the law, the others would leave. I want to hear her say she will follow the law.

None of those polls involve a presidential candidate espousing a policy of mass deportation. I know, in a perfect world, that's what some of us want, but this is the real world -- and it is not going to happen. Polls showing a support for tougher measures against illegal immigration don't include the visual of families - women and chldren - being rounded up on buses, trains and planes and being deported.

We can concentrate on things that are possible, like steep fines for employers, military on the border, a wall on the border, deportation of illegals felons etc.....

I think we need to be wily coyote enough to realize when someone is on our side without making them make politically suicidal statements. I trust several of the potential nominees for 2012 to “do the right thing” and I know they will be MUCH tougher on this issue than the last few presidents. However, I don’t expect them to make statements that may harm their chances of winning. Sometimes you just have to have faith.

In the interest of accuracy, and generally speaking, I think the negative-about-Sarah posters on this thread are not the same folks who complain about Sarah being a "quitter" and Sarah not having enough experience.

The folks on this thread tend more to be concerned about Sarah's support of McCain and the Sarah Univision interview about illegal immigration.

Moreover, we’ve got the dems on the ropes on the economy, spending and jobs, jobs, jobs. We have real opportunities to make some gains in November 2010. Let’s not allow Obama to change the topic. If it becomes all about immigration right now — we lose.

One big reason for the immigration reform push, sources say, is that Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is in a brutal battle to win re-election in Nevada, where a quarter of the population is Hispanic and he has promised to try. More broadly, Democrats admit, they know that Latinos who voted in big numbers for President Obama are angry that Democratic leaders have not kept a promise to deal with immigration reform.

Let's not give them this issue right now. We've waited this long, we can wait until after November.

Why are you expending so much energy on denigrating Sarah Palin?

She's on our side.

The enemies are Barack Obama and his socialist minions, along with the RINOs like McCain and Romney, not common-sense conservatives like Palin.

We should be fighting the socialist creeps, not trying to tear down our own. Not at this stage of the situation.

We have much bigger problems to deal with than Governor Palin stumbling on some words.

This quote couldn’t be more obvious in it’s meaning!

“And you know, there are humane ways to deal with the 11-13 million illegal aliens that are in our country right now, but if they’re not going to follow the rules, they need to get out.”

First, she knows damn well there are more than 13 million here. And, Yes, they do need to get out. But, dear Sarah, what are you “humanely” planning to do with the illegals who, in your opinion, ARE “following the rules”?

She is just like the rest...says she opposes amnesty, at least not “total” amnesty. She’ll do anything to appear to be for it and against it. Fred Thompson did the exact same thing..remember...he kept saying he opposed amnesty, at least not a “blanket” amnesty ....and just like Palin would clarify by adding...”but figure out some way to make some differentiation between the kind of people that we have here.”

Bottom line, they both want to deport the ‘bad’ criminal illegal aliens and give the ‘good’ criminal illegal aliens a path to citizenship/AMNESTY.
