No. That is to say, Yes. But not really. Actually, what we have here is an badly phrased question: just what do we mean when we ask “Are men smarter than women”?
We’re asking this again, because (via HotAir) The Daily Mail has asked. And, even though that paper is, as many readers have insisted, England’s equivalent of the New York Post, an article by retired professor Richard Lynn has, as they say in journalism, stirred up controversy.
Judging by the comments garnered at the paper and at HotAir, most do not understand the question, or purposely—or willfully—misunderstand it. Part of the difficulty is that the question is badly put.
Interpretation one: all men are smarter than all women. This is false, obviously. And not on any theoretical grounds: its falsity rests on a solid empirical base.
Interpretation two: some men are smarter than some women. This is clearly true; it has been amply empirically verified. But so has its inverse: some women are smarter than some men.
Interpretation three: some men are smarter than all women. This is true; but once more, so is its opposite: some women are smarter than all men. How can this be?
What’s Smarter?
Because we, like everybody else, have been playing fast and loose with the word “smarter.” We’re letting everybody interpret the word, via the question, in any way they like.
Before we go farther, we have to understand the differences in types of evidence used in answering who’s “smarter.” There are three: empirical observations, “theory”, and counterfactual arguments.

Men and women are different thinkers, there is no discussion there. I have seen both smart and dumb people of both sexes. Intelligence can be of both smarts and wisdom.
Based on experience, my dad is dumber than a box of hammers, but he kept us fed, clothed, and put a roof over our heads. He can’t ever figure out how to use a simple calculator. My mother on the other hand, is very intelligent and actually raised us kids.

I’ll add that there are a lot of women out there that are far better than men in almost every way .... intellectually, morally, etc.
I’ll gladly admit that the women in my life are better than me in so many ways.
I’m smarter at spatial reasoning and have a far superior mechanical aptitude. My girlfriend can read people better, and has steered me clear of people who were engaging in less than honorable transactions. She can even tell if I’ve looked at another pretty woman. Even when she wasn’t around to seem me looking.
Every Hollywood movie that has come out in the past 20 years would agree with you but would extend it across the board to all men and all women. Women are smarter, wiser, faster, tougher, stronger--you name it.

the question is as smart as ‘is the glass half empty or half full...the answer is it’s completely full...half w/ liquid and half w/ air.
of course men are smarter than women, in select areas...as women are smarter than men in select areas.
the foolishness is that the left thinks women and men are the same...which they are not. since they aren’t the same, there have to be areas where men are superior to women and where women are superior to men. the value is in recognizing where the superiorities lie and using those to greatest advantage.
However, both genders are hormonally rendered somewhat to dramatically less intelligent depending on age and circumstances.
This is especially true for politics as most women lose critical thinking skills when considering political candidates.

This cannot be true. “ALL” is the keyword in this statement.
If some men were smarter than ALL women, no woman could be the smartest, and vice-versa.
Besides, this argument can never be won and it doesn’t matter anyway.
