t's not a slam-dunk but Pat Toomey is still running strong in his bid to have a real Republican in Arlen Specter's seat for the first time in decades.
Likely Republican nominee Pat Toomey still runs strongly against incumbent Senator Arlen Specter, but Pennsylvanas U.S. Senate contest is a dead heat if his Democratic opponent is Congressman Joe Sestak. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey of likely Pennsylvania voters finds Toomey earning 50% support for the second month in a row against Specter, who picks up 38% of the vote.
For the incumbent, thats down slightly from the 40% level hes been at since the first of the year in match-ups with Toomey. Seven percent (7%) now opt for another candidate, while six percent (6%) are undecided.

Ping!!!
Looks very promising for Toomey and the GOP. Any predictions for next week's special House election in Murtha's old district?

And what happens if Arlen Spector runs Independent?

this is exactly why i hope Specter wins his primary
If Sestak wins he has a better shot at and probably would win the Senate seat
i hope not but its far likely Sestak retains the seat than Specter could

Thanks for the ping. No predictions, but the hope is Burns for the special election and Russell in November for the full 2 year term.

Hell be a better Santorum than Santorum was.Santorum's main problem in my view was having to carry the water for the Republican caucus. His views were often compromised because of that. I always wondered why he was selected for the position. Normally you'd want a senator who was relatively safe from electoral challenge. Santorum always had a tough re-election battle in a Pennsylvania that was trending ever more democrat.

I think they wanted a relatively conservative non-southern person in the leadership. Which was basically Rick Santorum.

I hate to say this but I think that the Dem, Critz, will take it. He seems to be having success at running in the "Center" even though he's a cookie-cutter of his old boss, John Murtha. I think he will defeat the GOP's hand-picked candidate for this Special Election and that Bill Russell will win the GOP Primary and will face Critz in November.
I'd like to see Burns win the Special Election and Russell win the Primary, but, I don't think it will happen. But, we can hope.
