How ‘bout corporate restructuring, job title/position eliminated and will soon be put out of your job?

Welcome to my world.

Thank you very much sir/ma’am. My company, Pfizer, just announced that they were moving all of our site’s mfg jobs to Puerto Rico and Ireland, impacting 1300 employees here in New York. I will pass on this information with much appreciation.

Suggestion: We should purge the word “impacting” from our vocabularies when discussing job losses. I suggest instead the phrase “destroying the livelihood of”; as in “destroying the livelihood of 1300 employees here in New York.”

“Impacting” is just too benign a term, at least for those of us who have in the past been “impacted”.

I laugh, because I thought a few LONG minutes before posting thinking exactly about what word to use there. Impacted. There are so many substitutions that would fit based on where I stand in the grief cycle. There is no “one size fits all” word for these situations, because in reality, they ALL fit.

As a manager, I have already informed my peeps that we will be laughing a whole lot more over the next time parcel we have together to “endeavor to perservere”

Type in a job title and city or state and it gathers job openings from all over.
