What should be the conservative Republican platform for the 2012 elections?

Deficits? Fascism by the left? Abortion? Foreign affairs? Repealing ObamaCare? How can the Tea Party Movement contribute? Who would be the candidates to take us forward?

Single rate income tax.
Phase out of Social Security, Medicare.
Enforce immigration law.
No more bailouts.
Freeze ALL spending, NO EXCEPTIONS.
Break up the big banks.

And that's just for starters...

First and foremost, it has to be more than a platform, it has to be a campaign. We can't let it happen again, some committee made platform that everyone refers to if questions come up, but the campaign itself rarely mentions a word of it.

The campaign should make it clear: After four years of Democrats spending the nation to bankruptcy and STILL leaving roads in horrible shape, people unemployed, a health care plan no one has a clue how to pay for, medicare about to be devastated by the same budget that is trillions out of whack...

Ending of government ownership of what should be private enterprise. End of Freddy Mac, Fannie Mae. End of ownership of GM. End of bailouts. A roll back of federal insurance for accounts, and a corresponding drop in the fees charged to insure those accounts. Ending most of Wall Street's regulations, ending of salary caps and reopening the market to all investment.

Repudiation of retirement funds for members of congress, a roll back to FY 2000 levels of funding for all congressional budgets, the ending of private airplanes for members of congress. A restoring of the outside ethics investigators and a requirement to have ALL investigations done in an open matter, not just ones referred to by committee.

A 50 state commitment to roll back programs that have had their trials and shown to be utter failures. An ending of federal involvement in state education, retasking those dollars to help save programs that do work.

I could go on and on, but the truth is, none of this is going to come to pass. It'll be ultra liberal against liberal in the general election, with people telling us that we'd best hold our noses and vote for the not as liberal because it's the only way forward.

I honestly think that it'll be in 2014 when the Tea Party movement really comes into stride, as they cast off the yoke of the GOP and openly challenge them in every primary in the midterms, and defeat many. And in 2016, they'll do the same to the Democrats. Because all the GOP is concerned with is identifying numbers. No longer is the worry if they're doing the right thing for the country or even if they'll win an election, they just want people to like them.

Well, tough, sometimes you gotta be the adult who tells the truth to those who don't want to hear it, and put your foot down to take back the reigns of the nation from the idiocy liberalism and quasi-communism has brought.

We need to re-establish the Republican party as the party of fiscal sanity. We need to have a candidate who can look Americans in the eye, so to speak, and say, "We can't have all these programs. These are the ones we have to cut, and this is why" without fear of being seen as "mean."

We have to go back not to RWR, because he was the greatest proponent of these things but no one person is greater than these ideals, but to what he represented--optimism backed by strength, not wanting government to control every detail of our lives (which some conservatives need to re-learn in terms of certain social issues).

Our bedrock issues must be defense, taxes, pro-life, strong free speech (including Internet), gun, and individual liberties protection.

We need someone who can make people WANT to live without government policing everyone else (which ends up including you at some point), but want a sane fiscal policy and strong defense of borders and American citizens, whether the opponent is illegal aliens or terrorists.

We also have to have someone who isn't doing the BS red state/blue state thing. We're all Americans, and we have to define what that means, or else the nation we all live in is doomed.

And my personal issue which never seems to get mentioned--make English our official language.

Explain to the public how destructive liberal Democrat policies are, and offer clear, contrasting, no-compromising conservative positions. No more nibbling around the edges or offering slightly-less liberal proposals that'll just move the goal posts to the left more.

(1) 10% flat income tax with no credits, deductions, allowances, or loopholes. Everyone pays the same rate. Abolish all other federal taxes. Active duty and retired military veterans should be exempt from paying income taxes.

(2) Abolish depts such as Housing, Education, Commerce, Interior, ATF, Labor, Homeland Security. Scale down HHS, EPA

(3) Militarize the southern border and kick out all illegals living in the U.S. Void U.S citizenship of children of illegals born after the 1986 amnesty.

(4) Give seniors and those who are on Medicare and Medicaid vouchers to purchase insurance through private plans, and phase out both programs.

(5) Offer everyone 55 and older who have paid into SS a lump-sum cash-out. Those 54 and younger should have the option of rolling over what they put into SS into an IRA or 401(k).

I can think of more but it's late

Veterans are already getting screwed as it is. If you served your country, you should be exempt from paying taxes.

Grown up’s in charge of the country again......

People should be qualified and vetted prior to running for office. Barack Obama and Alvin Greene just two people that come to mind as totally unqualified for the job that they seek.

Drop the support for Puerto Rican statehood, and any other initiative that favors the Third Worldization of the United States. Support balanced budget amendment and sound money (preferable a gold standard).

Competition.

The unions would have to compete against non-union companies in all areas of public service. Teachers, schools, building, infrastructure, whatever. Let them compete in the real world.

Entitlements.

No more corporate bailouts, welfare to lifers, fannie, freddie, tax credits, housing tax credits, energy tax credits, or tax credits of any kind, food stamps, housing subsidies, ssi. Cut them at the rate of 25% per year for 4 years.

Obamacare.

Knock portions of it down until it doesn’t exist. Start with tort reform and single payer, then go to competition across state lines.

Immigration.

Eliminate all benefits to illegals, including schooling, health care, and anchor babies.

Taxes.

Eliminate all taxes meant to modify any human behavior.

Congress.

Congress must obey all laws imposed on the citizens.

I disagree.

I can understand combat pay and pensions being exempt from Federal taxes, but to suggest that military personnel should be given a blanket and indefinite tax exemption is just wrong.
