I haven't heard him for years and years. Found this and had to share! Had to take a break from our news of world.

Used to listen to him all the time. Good memories! Didn’t Weird Al begin his career with the dr?

Not sure if Weird Al began with him, but Dr. Demento helped him on his way.

Very cool, thanks. I always hoped Dr. D would find his way onto satellite radio, but I guess their ideas and his aren’t compatible. So now he’s internet only but will still enjoy a following....and staaaaayyyy deeeemented!!!

They're Coming to Take Me Away, Ha-Haaa
from: Dr. Demento’s Delights
Warner Bros. 1975 BS 2855 0698

Remember when you ran away and I got on my knees and begged you not to
leave because I'd go berserk?? Well...
You left me anyhow and then the days got worse and worse and now you see
I've gone completely out of my mind.. And..
They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa
To the funny farm. Where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be
happy to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!!!

You thought it was a joke and so you laughed, you laughed when I had said
that loosing you would make me flip my lid.. RIGHT???
I know you laughed, I heard you laugh, you laughed you laughed and
laughed and then you left, but now you know I'm utterly mad... And..

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa,
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the happy home. With trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haaa!!!

I cooked your food, I cleaned your house, and this is how you pay me back
for all my kind unselfish loving deeds.. Huh??
Well you just wait, they'll find you yet and when they do they'll put you
in the ASPCA, you mangy mutt!!! And...

They're coming to take me away, ha-haaa.
They're coming to take me away, ho-ho, hee-hee, ha-haaa.
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time and I'll be happy
to see those nice young men in their clean white coats and they're coming
to take me away, ha-haaa!!!
To the happy home, with trees and flowers and chirping birds and basket
weavers who sit and smile and twiddle their thumbs and toes and they're
coming to take me away, ha-haa!!!
To the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time... (fade out)

I was a regular listener during the 1970’s. In 1975, I saw him do his show live at the University of Southern California.

Oh, wow. I remember being a 16 year old kid, parked in front of the local hospital at 11 at night to pick up my mother (she was an R.N.), and passing the time listening to Dr. Demento on one of the local AM stations. 'Pico and Sepulveda'. 'Shaving Cream'. Spike Jones coming out the ears. What a time warp.

Yeah, I have a couple or ten gray hairs. LOL

"But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: for men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away, for his name is Obama."

I swear Dr Demento kind of looks like Marc Levin.

Some of the songs he did back in the day he would not be able to play these days, two I can think of are “Hopalong Ben Gay” and “Big Bad Bruce”, which was a parody of Big Bad John. I am starting to laugh just thinking of these songs.

Turned me on to Monty Python.

We heard Weird Al live on Dr. D. before anyone else did.

Dr. Demento is the George Washington of alternative media comedy.
