Study Finds 1 in 5 Employers Consider Dropping Health Coverage

President Obama and Democrats’ grand experiment with Americans’ health care is already backfiring just mere months after becoming law. A survey of 459 employers by Fidelity Investments, a leading provider of employee benefits, finds that 1 in 5 employers are “seriously” evaluating dropping health benefits for their employees. Furthermore, 1 in 2 small businesses are bracing for higher health care premiums as a result of the law. Sunit Patel, senior vice president of Fidelity’s Benefits Consulting services warns, “Over the long run, health care reform could lead to significant changes to an employee’s benefits well beyond health care coverage.”

As with everything in politics, that was the original intention. There are no “unforeseen consequences” in politics. They meant for this to happen, and it did.

I just found out that if I don't lose 10 pounds to get my BMI below 30, my deductible goes from $1000 to $4000 / year. Right now I'm 6'1” and 234. This is the new Blue Cross package that my employer is going to. I would think that this is going to be a standard thing for many.

They won’t be taking in to account your bone size or muscle mass either. I’m 5’1”, small boned and am not supposed to weigh more than 115 lbs. At that weight I’m sick all the time. 130 works best. Nor does it take into account existing health conditions. Being hypo-thyroid makes it hard to lose weight, having Fibromyalgia makes exercise nearly impossible. Had to give up walking due to nerve damage in my feet and legs. I’m down to 1 meal a day to get the 10 lbs off, to get me to the 130. Now they will be telling me I have to weigh the UNHEALTHY weight of 115 lbs?
