Update: VikingKitty Moose has gone 'home' (vanity)
3-11-10 | pillut48

Just a final update for those of you had have kept my 14 y/o cat Moose (recently diagnosed with end stage renal failure just after we returned from a 5 week trip to India 3 weeks ago) in your thoughts and prayers after my vanity request a few weeks ago.

Our beloved furbaby Moose peacefully took his last breath Monday night, 8-9-10, cradled gently in my 9 y/o daughter Maya's arms, at 11:15 pm. God lent Moose to us for 14 years, the longest I've ever had a pet, and for all of Maya's life. We were greatly blessed by this sweet boy, and he will be greatly missed. :*(

Maya helped me with putting him in a box with his favorite toys and wrapping him up with a towel, and we both wrote letters to Moose that we stuck in there with him expressing how much we loved him. Maya insisted on carrying him alone into Dr. Mac's (Moose's vet since we got him) clinic yesterday morning. Moose's remains are being cremated and we plan to scatter his ashes on the east Texas dairy farm this weekend where he was born a feral kitty all those years ago before God lent him to us.

Our hearts are broken but I am trying to help Maya grieve since she's never lost a pet before (she lost a butterfly she raised last summer that she STILL grieves for, my sweet sympathetic, empathetic child!)...she gathered up all of Moose's favorite toys and playthings, and put his best ones in with him, and has the others in a big ziploc bag to remember him by. It's going to be a painful process, but we have so many wonderful memories of this unique, corn-loving (whole kernel corn was his all time favorite snack) , big old loveable furbaby and we keep reminding each other of that. Now we will be adjusting to being "Moose-less", but we still have his 13 y/o sister Pebbles to lavish all of our love on, so that's a blessing. I'm wondering if my twins will even notice he's gone? :*(

Thank you to the kind FReeper friends who sent public and private emails of support, encouragement and prayers. There were greatly appreciated. I'm going to print them out along with the many kind condolence notes we received from a pet support group on yahoo and make a little memory book for Maya to keep, hopefully to help her with her grieving (and mine too).

Here's one of the last pictures Maya took of Moose 2 Sundays ago, when we thought we might have him a bit longer. Cherish your viking kitties, you never know when God, Who has so generously lent them to us, will take them home with Him!

Goodbye, my sweet 'furson'! Your human "Mama" will miss you sooooo much, but will try to remember the so many years of joy and happiness and unconditional love you gave to me and my children, instead of this short time of heartbreaking sorrow! :*)

So sorry for your loss. Prayers and good wishes to you and your family. You did a wonderful thing rescuing a feral kitty and giving him a good life. He paid you back with love.

Too early in the morning for tears of such magnitude.

God bless you and your daughter and other family members, and remember that Moose if free, now.

*HUGS*

So sorry for your loss. It sounds like Moose was a very lucky pet being rescued from his feral roots and having such a loving home.

Godspeed, Moose!

Our pets become a part of us. I cried like a baby when we lost our pet cat to “Tabby TB” a few years ago. You are right to celebrate, and you are right to mourn.

My deepest condolences for your loss.

Maya sounds a lot like me as a kid.
[okay...I admit it...as an adult, too]...;]

She’ll probably grow up dragging all sorts of injured/lost/homeless things into your life.

Enjoy her and give her a hug for me...she’s a precious soul.

What a beautiful kitty! So very sorry for your loss.

Over the years we too have lost many kitties and each one of them has left us with wonderful memories. The time they gift us with their presence is way too short.

Blessings, etabeta

...take comfort in knowing 14 years is a long a fruitful life in kitty years. We are all here to share our happiness and sorrow, many never know the true companionship of a pet, as many kitties never get to have a home. Yours was well loved and cared for......Maya will be able to share just that with another who needs a home.

When I come to the end of this road
And the sun has set for me.

I want no rites in a gloom filled room
Why cry for a soul set free!

Miss me a little, but not for long,
And not with your head bowed low,

Remember the love that we once shared,
Miss me, but let me go!

For this journey we all must take,
And each must go alone,

It’s all part of the Master’s plan
A step on the road to home,

When you are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to the friends we know,

And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds,
Miss me but let me go!

My vet gave this to me with the final paw print from my precious kitty 4 years ago. Since that time I’ve become a foster for a local animal shelter. I always told my kitty it would take more than one cat to replace her. 21 kitten litters later and all now adopted, I am currently caring for a diabetic cat who is recovering very well and will be ready for adoption soon...yeah, I miss her still.

I know it’s hard to loose a furry friend. Been there many times before. One of my past furry friends was a cat named Moose also. A big loveable pile of fur. Your right about years and years of fun and love you get from the fur balls. Hopefully as time passes you’ll be able to give love to a new furry friend in need.

I feel for your loss. I fear my beloved cat is about to lose his battle from the same disease.

All cats go to Heaven, you know.

I believe we will be reunited with ALL our beloved pets in His kingdom...G-d is able. Tears now; joy later.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss.. my condolences and prayers are with you both. I received this poem when, last year I lost my best friend of 14 years, a Golden Retriever named Millie.....

Rainbow Bridge

There is a bridge connecting heaven and earth
It is called Rainbow Bridge because of its many colors

When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.

There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.

There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.

The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….

Author unknown…

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. Take some time to grieve and then take your daughter to the local shelter and rescue another very lucky kitty. Time will lessen the hurt.

Sorry to hear of you loss. Losing a companion of 14 years is difficult. I lost my German Shepherd last year at age 10. We now have another dog, a little one. His name is Moose.
