Tale of Two Rallies
Accuracy in Academia ^ | August 30, 2010 | James F. Davis

There were two rallies in Washington, DC this weekend. The Tea Party/Glen Beck ‘Restoring Honor’ of about one million was in stark contrast to the Reverend Al Sharpton’s rally. That crowd had about 3,000, or less than 1% of the Tea Party rally.

My wife, who attended the Tea Party Rally, reported that Sharpton’s group marched from a High School across town to the Lincoln Memorial as the Tea Partiers were leaving. The Tea Partiers, who once again were peaceful and left the grounds impeccably clean, clapped as the Sharpton group passed by, but received no response.

At the Beck Restoring Honor rally, Martin Luther King’s niece, Dr. Alveda King gave a positive, more religious than political, message of hope. Sharpton’s message was negative. It focused on skin color, oppression, demands and a lament that Martin Luther King’s dream had not been realized. That we have a black president seems to have escaped him and his other race hustler speakers.

The Tea Party movement is about traditional moral values, less government interference in our lives, personal responsibility and passing on the principles of our founding fathers.

“Last Friday I asked my Congressman, Rep. Heath Shuler, D-N.C., why he has never had a Townhall meeting to allow his constituents to ask questions directly. He replied that he was not going to “waste my time having people scream at me.””

I’m guessing he got enough of that as a Redskin QB. What a douche!

LOL.

If he actually DID HIS JOB, there would be no reason to scream at him.

What a maroon........

The Tea Party movement is about traditional moral values...

Not entirely true. I would like it to be, and nearly all Tea Party participants endorse traditional moral values, but it is not.

The Tea Party movement is narrowly focused on smaller government and adherence to the Constitution. Things like gay marriage are not an aspect of the TEA parties.

Okay, I hate to ask, but since the msm reported mostly white people being at the Beck rally, what was the color of most of the people at Sharpton’s march?

strange that sharptons rally had such low turnout.

there are ten times that number of minority gang bangers living within walking distance of his rally.

guess even they could care less.

That's a vile slander. A douche is useful and cleansing. Don't insult them with a comparison to a Democratic Congressman who is neither useful nor cleansing.. :-)

TEA party rallies are also political, "Restoring Honor" was specifically not. It was not a Tea Party rally regardless many of the attendees also gather at those, and the whole reason it ended up being held on the day it was had to do with Glenn's attempt to get it away from 9/11 also.

To keep lumping the two events, Glenn's rally and Sharpie's little get-together in these side-by-side comparisons also defeats the point Glenn was trying to make, the meaning of his event. I wish people would not continue to do this.

That crowd had about 3,000

I figured that was the reason the MSM never came out with a crowd estimate. Should've just said... "dozens listened on as the 'Rev.' Al Sharpton sweatily ranted about..."

Not sure of that (though I do have a pretty good idea of it), the area where the people stood must've looked largely green from a bird's eye view. Can't fill that huge space with the paltry few dozen that showed up.
