Video: SNL on O’Donnell, Ground Zero Mosque
Hot Air ^ | 9/26/10 | Allahpundit

Three clips for you from last night’s season premiere, although only one is worth watching. The O’Donnell skit is the “newsworthy” bit but the gags are so predictable that you might as well skip it. How predictable? Put it this way: At one point, they actually have her in a witch’s hat riding a broom. So perfunctory is it, in fact, that I wonder if they were forced to do something like this because all the good comic material had already been mined while they were on summer hiatus. See, e.g., this absurd mock ad about the Delaware race created by Jimmy Kimmel 10 days ago.

The fake commercial for the Ground Zero mosque is also worth skipping if you’re pressed for time, partly because it’s derivative of Greg Gutfeld’s plan to build a gay bar next door to Park51 and partly because of the lame “twist” at the end. They wanted to goof on the mosque somehow but they didn’t want to take full responsibility for doing so, so they copped out by framing it as a goof on the GOP. Way to be brave, kids.

The third clip, in which David Paterson confronts longtime antagonist Fred Armisen, is the one to watch. I’ve written about these skits before, amazed that they’d joke about his disability so brazenly and surprised that Armisen’s weird insult-comic reimagining of Paterson works as well as it does. I laughed all the way through the first three minutes here. Paterson has some well-written one-liners too, but alas, he’s no performer so they end up falling flat. But never mind that: It’s nice to see that he’s been able to put his pique over their mockery of him aside. Enjoy.

SNL is so sad compared to what it used to be. Why anyone wastes time on it is a mystery. There are so many more worthwhile things to do with my time on a Saturday night. Like sleeping.

Allahpundit chose his side. It was not with the Conservatives.

He can try all he wants to revive his brand but it has been irretrievably damaged by his stupidity post Delaware Senate primary.

I turned it on just to see if they would continue with their lefty cheer-leading. I didn't even last through the stupid O'Donnell skit. What garbage.

SNL still has some funny moments. Last night’s Christine skit was not one of them. Very predictable.

Now if SNL could only find the Obama college papers to see what he did when he was a young adult. I am sure that would be quite a skit or two.

“Man, SNL stinks now”

Now??

I quit watching that crap several years ago. The show ceased being funny about a season before that, but I was hoping that they would turn it around. naturally, they didn’t.

As long as decent people tune in or talk about these stupid, pointless and disgusting tv shows, the those cretins that produce them will continue to do so.

Ignore them and they will go away.

The harder they hit with these silly and adolescent ads, SNL skits, etc. the worse they make themselves look to anyone with half a working gray cell. They have tried the same tactics with Palin for the past two years and only made her better known and people more curious about her. They are evidently too stupid to realize that when normal folks (meaning around 60% of the US voting public) eventually see and hear the real person and not the caricature, the whole exercise in channeling Herr Goebbels falls apart.

This is, basically, what happened to the Republican establishments in South Carolina, Alaska, Delaware, and Nevada during the primaries. The Democrats are trying the run the same game plan on a much larger scale, expecting a different result: the very definition, along with the perpetual expression on Nancy Pelosi's face, of sheer, foaming at the mouth insanity.

When I think back in the days of John Belushi, SNL was hilarious, cutting edge and not afraid to poke fun at everyone from Nixon to Carter. The thing was they really didn't do political humor, parody yes but they seemed pretty neutral. It seemed they mostly poked fun at pop culture. I haven't watched it much in the last 30 years but when I do tune in it seems like it's actually painful to watch. After about 1 maybe 2 skits I just give up.

It's painfully obvious they're trying to give O'Donnell the Palin treatment. So far she seems to have handled it well.

I thought the audience reaction was rather cool and embarrased during the O’Donnel thing — even for the liberal NYC dorks who manage to get in.

The bit with Patterson was much funnier.

It just seems they try to hard and are too obviously Left Slanted...The O’Donnell skit was awfull...That woman must have some dirt on someone because she is in too many skits and isn’t funny.

They use to do skits to create laughs instead of political cheers.

Yeah, there’s not much that is funny that comes out of SNL anymore. Some of the digital shorts are good, but the political bits are snoozeville.

I’m looking forward to the new season of South Park, those guys will have a field day with some of the stuff that’s been going on.

Yes, she’s getting the Palin treatment.

There’s some dispute as to whether getting the Palin treatment is a good or bad thing.

Certainly, SNL thinks it’s a bad thing.

On the other hand, I would say that Palin is the front runner right now. It’s hard to argue with first place, although others will argue that she would’ve been not only in first place, but far ahead of everyone.
